Question about Kostya Tszyu

Post by Legend7 »

Kostya Tszyu is a 4-time world Champion
I can't understand this
Seeing his records I see 2-time WC. He was just adding belts...

How do we count how many times someone was a WC?

By the lineage, or an agreed-upon consensus they're the best if there is some reasom they cannot fight he with the lineage.

This whole thing about guys like Holyfield and De La Hoya being five and six-time champs etc is complete bologne. The MOST important thing is to pay absolutely no mind to people like announcers, commentators and the like. These guys spit out the term, "World Champion," in routine error, and often times under obligation.

....and if they are somehow obliged to throw out how many times someone achieved a title, perhaps they should be obliged to announce how many times someone lost titles along the way.

I suppose the best champion only holds his championship once.....from the time he attains it to the time he retires.

Ricardo Lopez almost did that and he is heavily criticised for not going up

...goodnight's answer is right to the point. i repeat this a lot...the only fighters to hold three titles were henry armstrong and bob fitszimmons....and uh..if there's a third one i forget who.

one reason there are so many vacant titles is because there are so many half steps and so many weight divisions is because fighters move up to the higher weight class and and leave their previous titles to the alphabet boys, each of whom then names a different champion. this is one reason why boxing has become a minor sport.

And something else about Tszyu. Both Russia and Australia consider him as their world champion. He held both nationalities? can someone have two nationalities? I remember him saying after a victory 'This is a big day for Australia and Russia'

I have heard of course, but I thought that in boxing you must choose one.

I agree. But since he was able to have both then officially he is both. I liked the sign he was wearing .Russia's eagle holding the australian flag :) Anyway, he was a great boxer!

Right, which is why I say, "to me."

The guy is Russian as far as Im concerned. Was great for Ausshe Boxing and, really, Boxing period.

A good fighter, a fine champion and a STERLING human being.
