Mosley vs Alvarez : Is this really a wise move for Shane ?

Apparently, Shane Mosley will take on Alvarez on the undercard of the Mayweather - Cotto fight on the 5th May. Shane says he is ready to fight and is excited at the prospect. He then goes on to say that the fight will move him on to "bigger and better things......". The simple fact is that Shane is 40 years of age and shot. In recent years he has fought Mayweather, Pacquaio, Margarito and Cotto, so i don't see where his "bigger and better things" statement comes from. I think that Alvarez is slightly over-rated and will come apart in his next few fights dependant upon who he fights, but Shane will not be the opponent to alter his relentless march forward. I personally think he should hang up the gloves and retire.

I wonder if Shane is struggling for money or can't resist another pay day. I listened to a radio interview with Roger Mayweather who thinks that Alvarez wouldn't last four rounds with Mosley, which i found a slightly odd opinion to hold. It seems to me that the likes of Mosley and Jones don't know when to pack up the gloves and it seems as if Mosley is still clinging to his performance against Margarito as a barometer of how well he can still perform at the highest level. I was suprised to hear this news as i thought Shane had decided to effectively retire after the Pacquaio fight. Hopkins is still fighting, so is Jones, Wright, Marquez, Morales, so maybe your late 30's is seen as the halcion days for fighters.

It isn't impossible that Shane catches Alvarez and decks him. But Shane Molassesy is much more likely to take a shoeing for 12 rounds. As he is, after all, 40 years old and 8-10 past his prime.

You must be very sensitive. I wasn't trying to be an arse, but how often do shot 40 year olds (especially one who lost half of his assests to his ex-wife and tried to quit during his last fight) continue fighting for reasons other than money?

You must be very sensitive. I wasn't trying to be an arse, but how often do shot 40 year olds (especially one who lost half of his assests to his ex-wife and tried to quit during his last fight) continue fighting for reasons other than money?

There are a few people such as Roger Mayweather who give him a chance. I don't think that the fight will be any different to the one against Pacquaio regarding the result, but i just thought i would throw it out there........

Poor old Shane, his future looks very grim indeed. Why is he still paying off an ex wife? Surely any court can comprehend that a 40 year old athlete who needs to retire cannot generate the millions he did in his youth?

Mosley and Roy Jones make me very sad.
