Kid Galahad v Jason Booth - 1.7m
Kid Galahad v Jason Booth - 1.7m
Just heard that FIVE are over the moon - 1.7m viewers for a show with two virtually unknown boxers and competing with lots of other sport plus Jonathan Ross on at the same time.
Great news for boxing as this is definitely a terrestial platform that can be built on. Hopefully Fury's next match will push it even further.

Im reading they got 1.1 million. Think that might be the average which is still very good ratings.
Re: Kid Galahad v Jason Booth - 1.7m
It was the first time, in a long time that I've seen an advertising campaign (albeit a small one) for a terrestial TV boxing fight. I aint seen them for Five's previous attempts (excluding Moorer vs Holyfield 2 yonks ago).
It was good work by all involved to get the Rogan vs Fury fight sorted and advertised in this broadcast.... and what a contrast it was to the Haye / Chisora mess. Fury even jokingly saying that Rogan is going to stop him in the first 10 seconds!

Imagine how many more would've watched if it wasn't for BNs freebie.

great news

Not that many more? How many people knew of it being a freebie? How many tuned in to it.Dioufy wrote:Imagine how many more would've watched if it wasn't for BNs freebie.
It is amazing how many people are watching the boxing on 5 without any real interest in the sport.... like it when it is there, but will not purchase Sky Sports, allegedly etc.

i wonder what the tv deal Five have in place with Hennessey,it would be intresting to see . This was the first fight they have shown without Tyson fury figthing so they must be intrested in the long run for it... whats peoples opnions?

I only realised because I was watching the freeview on BN, then I watched 24 on the DVD player. 3 episodes later I finished, turned off DVD player and there it was; Klit doing his ring-walk. I went upstairs to whack a quick one out then got myself a beer and enjoyed the evening.

I thought that the promos and build-up were really good, including the little VT packages before the fight to let the viwers know more about the fighters backgrounds' etc.stujones wrote:It was the first time, in a long time that I've seen an advertising campaign (albeit a small one) for a terrestial TV boxing fight. I watched it with a mate plus the wife and her friend and both the birds were really interested once they'd seen the VT etc etc and really enjoyed the fight (which was a good competitive match obviously).
All in all, FIVE's success shows yet again that there is a great appetite for boxing on terrestrial TV when the fights are competitive matches with good promotion and background stories. So let's hope that maybe another broadcaster sees this success and joins in too.
Re: Kid Galahad v Jason Booth - 1.7m
wow 1.7m viewers, you have got to hand it to Hennessy, not a big fan but with all the problems he has had over the last few years he is the one who has brought boxing back to terrestrial TV, we all slagged him off but he has pulled it out of the bag. shame that Froch, Barker and Murray didn't stay with him, just think if they did we would of been in for a right treat.
But i think this Kid Galahad can become a major star, they need to not rush him defend his title a few times then throw him in with the big guns, he seems such a likable person, a boxer who has respect for people, really looking forward to the next night of boxing on five.
He is from the same gym as Brook, right? if so another couple of successful outings on channel 5 and surely he will become a bigger name then Kell.

If that did 1.1m or 1.7m then I'm thinking Fury Vs Rogan will do atleast 2/3m.
Re: Kid Galahad v Jason Booth - 1.7m
I think that fight will do serious numbers - it's just very sellable to the general sporting / Sat night publicsaturday_kid wrote:If that did 1.1m or 1.7m then I'm thinking Fury Vs Rogan will do atleast 2/3m.
Two exciting fighters with track records for being in good punch-ups, Heavyweights too boot, with big personalities and back stories.
I think it's a very canny move and just what we need to keep the ball rolling.

Spot on Dan.
Birds like boxing if they get the back story relayed to them.
