Two points to make............

I didn't think that Chisora did all that well in the fight. He was very predictable in what he did and was essentially out classed and out fought by a 40 year old man who is clearly on the decline. In comparison to what other boxers have done against Vitali it could be viewed as a success of sorts, but in pure fighting terms, Chisora never looked liked winning. I always felt that Chisora didn't deserve his title shot when it was first announced and he only got the shot because of the dearth of talent in the heavyweightb division, plus the Klitschko's want to make easy money, through easy paydays. I don''t think Chisora is anywhere near a world class operator and would lose to most fighters in the top ten.

As for Haye and Chisora bringing boxing into disrepute, know one can argue against that, but equally, most people are bright enough to know that there actions represent a tiny percentage of the boxing world. Look at how Fury and Rogan conducted themselves on saturday night, aswell as Kid Galahad and Jason Booth, they were all a credit to the sport. Boxing will always have these odd fracas, its par for course in a sport that is essentially controlled violence and most people enjoy it, whilst condemning it at the same time. It's happened before, with Bennt vs Hide, Rahman vs Lewis etc, but most people take them as isolated incidents and know that boxing in the main produces fighters who can be respected .

I seriously believe that chisora did well. I don't see too many getting rounds off Vitali, who hasn't lost a round since he came back. He was never in danger of winning, but he made a better fist of it than anyone before him, and most would have expected him to do at the first bell

You say that the Klits want easy pay days. Which top heavies are they avoiding for these easy nights?? Chisora had beaten Helenius in most peoples eyes....Nobody daid he was Frazier incarnate

My point about damaging the sport is the general publics view, the man on the street...not the boxing fan who knows the sport is full of great guys..a point I made at the end

So I do have one comment, which is about the after fight action in the ring.

When I watched live, my impression that the guy holding on was Vitali, not letting Chisora go back. Then while he was having words with Chisora, Wlad came over to also intefere and argue with Chisora. The pressure seemed to be from that corner, and Chisora was actually moving towards his own corner. Their pressure only stopped when (of all people) allegedly stepped in to break it up.

It stuck with me that it was the Klitschko's fault, as I am a big fan of theirs (one of the few people I know who like their style) and had aways admired how they dealt with people. As such I was really dissapointed in them for this after fight aggro.

I was wondering if anyone has a link to a youtube video of that bit? I can find plenty of the press conference ruckus but nothing showing this bit. I'd like to see it again to see if I have remembered wrong

I'd love it if this was the case, Quix, but I don't think it is. And worse, it simply reinforces/helps justify the prejudices of a vocal anti-boxing lobby.

I dont see how one incident ruins a sport. If that is the case then it werent much of a sport to start with.

I would have to disagree with you on how well Chisora did in the fight. Unfortunately, many people now judge a fighter on how badly he does against the Klitschko's and it seems to me with Chisora, people are saying "wow, he went the distance and actually took a few rounds off Vitali.......", when the reality is that he lost by a landslide to a declining 40 year old.

Well the Klitschko's could at least fight top five heavyweights instead of choosing a guy who's resume is pretty poor, who lost to Fury and technically lost to Helenius, though people think otherwise. I would say that the Klitschko's should be fighting a guy like Povetkin, not fighting domestic calibre fighters or blown up cruiserweights.

I don't think this mythical "man on the street" would be offended by waht he saw on saturday night or read about in the papers. Most would have been intrigued by it and the age group that watches boxing don't get appalled by such antics, it's a different generation. This isn't like Reg Guteridge commenting on Naseem Hameds taunting style by saying "Oh, we don't need this in boxing......", times change and entertainment is sold on controversy, look at the bloody soap opera's !!

I agree they should fight Povetkin, but let us remember, it is Povetkin who is avoiding the brothers! How can they be held responsible for this not happening?

Look at the terrible feedback in the media on what happened. If you don't think there is a huge proportion of men in the street who think boxing is for thugs then you are incorrect.

Boxing has become marginalised by more 'socially acceptable endeavours'. It is people like Ricky Hatton who bring boxing to the publics imagination. Men of honour and integrity (public image anyway, not debating if Ricky, or anyone in the world is genuine). Not a par of idiots like these two.

The WWE generation who like these anticts are not reflective of the typical general public. And as a industry we need the general public onside to grow.

I think the lobbyists would still be around whatever happenned in boxing. The lobbyists concentrate more on the actual effects of boxing on the fighters themselves, rather than the antics that go with the sport. Let's get real here, this is not the antiques roadshow, it is a sport based upon orgainised violence, of which intimidation pre fight has become the accepted norm since the days of Ali. You can recall countless fracas down the line in which fighters have ended up scrapping or grappling in tv studios, it's par for the course and has been going on for years.

People will chant and swear at football matches for years to come and their will be bubbling tension in boxing matches for years to come. Nothing will change, it's a good talking point and that's all it is. The fact is that if a few boxing superstars came along in each divsion in the next few years who were trash talkers and prone to having "incidents", the fans, the media, the ordinary guy in the street would love it, talk about it, put it up on you-tube, laugh over it, get excited and hyped by it, whilst all the time nodding in the right direction that "of course it's wrong, you can't condone it......." :TU:

I know where you are coming from, but i think that the sport has become more marginal of late because the quality of fighters has diminished and you can't watch boxing on terrestial television anymore, certainly not majot fights anyway. You have to pay for fights and the casual sports fan, or in your words the general public, switch off and don't bother with the sport. I think you over-react to what the perseption of the public will be. The papers will always react badly and take the moral high ground, they sensationalise what they write to sell newspapers.

I don't think the core audience that would watch boxing has been affected by more "socially acceptable endeavours", you only have to look at how they behave at football matches, the violent films they watch, the trashy soaps that are filled with story lines that dip into the gutter, the mindless acts of violence and anti social behaviour that are prevelant on our streets every fridayand saturday night through out the country. Your more middle aged guy from 50 years of age onwatds will perhaps have an adverse view point, but not your average "guy on the street"

People will watch boxing if it's free, the fights and fighters are of good quality and something is at stake that is recognised as being a of value to win, ie, a legitimate world championship title. Fracas have very little effect on boxing, because it has always gone on through out the years. Look at Ali, the supposed patron saint of boxing and a man supposedly revered around the world as a fine upstanding human being. He grappled with Joe Frazier in a televsion studio in front of an audience of millions, but that's ok, because it's saint Ali that did it, the greatest of all time !!!

Another article giving the sport a good bashing without putting it into perspective at all. Mayweather off to clink for punching his wife (is it), Corrales was a wife beater, Tyson a rapist (convicted), Hopkins used to mug old ladies, barrera is a thug who punched morales during a TV interview and someone else (I forget who) during a press conference, johnny Tapia a street thug and regular drug addict whilst fighting. Then how about "the greatest" , oh how we all love the greatest, but forget he was fighting on a TV set. Errol Christie punching mark kaylor, Errol does lots of good work now, but he was calling for the maximum sentence possible.

Annoys me it does. Good article from a written perspective mind. :TU:

Cheers matey! :TU:

Not bashing the sport. Just saying it gives those who love to bash us an oppurtunity, and those undecided will take a negative view.

I am well aware that Haye and Chisora are hardly Bndy and Dahmer!
