Yeah right....Calzaghe at that stage was just as much the "coward" if Ottke was..thats not a nice word to use about two world champion boxers..if anything Calzaghe was the one fighting Ottkes cast offs during that period 99-2003 Ottke was the man beating the men like Mitchell,Brewer first and Glencoffe Johnson who Calzaghe at that point didnt want to fight.

Robin Reid is one of my favourite fighters, but cmon he didnt get "robbed" he lost a very close one but didnt really do enough in a scrappy fight for the champion to have lost.he iddnt push it enough he tried to tippy tappy his way to a win in the other mans back yard. He was the victim of German gamesmanship just before and during the fight but robbery no way. I have a fond spot for ottke as when i first got a digital tv receiver and brand new digital TV (my first i got on my own) in 99, Eurosport was just about the only minimum pay subscription boxing u got back than, and Ottke fought every 6-8 weeks and i enjoyed watching his skill. He was small, ageing, had turned pro when many are nearer retirement and seemingly had no punch to speak of, yet all these bigger harder guys like silvio branco, james Butler, Johnson all hesitated and covered up when he did his trademark rushes.

He won a lot of close fights but the robbery thing is a myth. Anthony Mundine was shutting him out for 9 rounds , the novice outboxing the world amateur legend, and Ottke took him out with one shot into unconsciousness. His fights were always a spectacle too. He ushered in the big fight era in germany moreso than Rocchigiani and Maske had.

back on topic most hated boxers:

Marlon Starling (mean nasty guy)
Larry Holmes (he put the whole in asswhole)
Mike Tyson (crying whiny dumbass animal)
James Toney (only cos he acted all tough but was jackie Kallens poodle, letting her use him to market themselves as beauty and the beast, he wore the star of david for her, and generally acted like a brainless pug stereotype for her early in his career)
Derek Chisora (mad African with homosexual tendencies who always wears a Union Jack costume when commiting his latest mad act)

Ried was ''robbed'' of the chance of a fair fight imo. The judges impact was not the issue, it was the ref.

Gerald McClellan...

I know he lives with a disability now, but it doesn't make him a nice guy.

I also don't like Larry Holmes.
He had a great career, was an excellent Heavyweight Champion...

But I don't like the way that he conducts himself in his interviews, he has no class.

Ruiz is not a despicable person, but his fighting style qualifies lol. Holmes...if he wasn't serious, he'd be a genuinely great comedian. The guy should become a barber, and carry that attitude to work with him, while telling his stories of " yesteryear's glory and lament".

Here is a personal weakness of mine that by sharing maybe I can achieve atonement. I think Monzon was a fantastic fighter, I'd say top five. I honestly think if the guy would have fought in the Greb era he would have done quite well, such was his gift of ring generalship, pinpoint radar and cold calculating delivery of his brand of bad news.

However he deserves to be hated as a human being. I'm working on it and over the years I've improved my ability to compartmentalize these opposing attitudes. McClellan is another that I experience that sort ambivalence for as well. No conflict with Norris,

Ike? ,,,,, I just don't like.

Well you obviously dont appreciate a skilled technician at work. His fights were never boring. Some people just dont have the patience for his kind of style I understand that, they prefer the butterbean type bar brawls

I often make fun of Ottke but his skills were pretty well demonstrated. But damn He probably took "steering out of harms way" to the most eccentric level ever seen in pro boxing.

I don't hate him, but I'm not the biggest fan of Roberto Duran.

Yes, I know how great he was & what he achieved, but I just cannot abide my all his excuses for some his defeats & the apologies made for him by his disciples.

Imagine what would have been said if Sugar Ray Leonard had of turned his back in the first fight, just because it wasn't quite going his way & just quit because he had an alleged bad stomach? He would have got pilloried, yet Duran does that in the fight 2 & he gets excuses made for him. :-?

Fernando Vargas, Clifford Etienne, and Angel Manfredy come to mind as guys that have bothered me, but I lack the passion to hate them.
Holmes has got a lot of hate on this thread (and for decades) for embellishing and being bitter. In my eyes, his amazing work ethic and mastery of the game excuse him from quite a bit of trash talk. That goes for other ATG's as well. I can't hate them if I have no specific personal qualms and they made a great contribution to the sport.

I used to read Larry Holmes forum on his own site. He once said that Tyson doesn't hit hard, and that Cooney hit harder. Seems like nonsense really. Mundine I dislike as he puts on crappy boxing cards, and doesn't fight decent opposition most of the time. Danny Green is cool, before he made comments of wanting to fight Brock Lesnar lol. Generally I'm only in it to watch the boxing, not their personal life or what their opinions are.

I dont think Green was ever serious about those comments about the UFC, same said about Darchynian.

I agree about Mundine though.

He was interviewed after Geale won the IBF, the reporter asked him what he thought about it and he replied, "This just goes to show how good I am, i beat Geale."
