Sorry to announce the death of Dave Charnley this morning

I am very sorry to advise the boxing public that my friend Dave Charnley passed away this morning in hospital after a very short illness .
He was 76 last October and I had been in his company regularly over the last year . . After being away from the boxing scene for years , I know that he really enjoyed all the attention he got at the book signings we were at together .
He was a really nice man .

I don't yet know what funeral arrangements there will be , these will be down to the family .

A true British great from yesteryear, won almost everything he went for in the ring from the ABA title upwards, only got beat by the very best.
Goodbye to the Dartford Destroyer, many of your fans will remember with pride and affection what a great fighter you were.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family on their great loss.

Sad news indeed.
An underrated and probably underappreciated British boxing legend.
His trilogy with Joe Brown was amazing, by all accounts.

I just got the new book about him a couple of weeks ago and actually thought he looked quite healthy in the latest photos of him.
Sad to know he's gone.

Was at a book signing not long ago with him in Cardiff, he was a true gent, we has 10 bells for him last night at the Keith Mayo show in Plymouth. RIP
