Mayweather Video : Virtually admits Pac fight won't happen

Post by Quixall »

This is a relatively new video of Floyd on a talk show...............

It's a fairly serious interview and the presenter does press him on quite a few subjects. Towards the end, Floyd virtually admits that because of how he views the financial aspects of the fight, it will not really happen. The upshot is that whilst he supposedly offered Pacquaio 40 million dollars for the fight, Floyd wants to keep 100% of the revenue. Floyd states that he offered to "wire" 20 million dollars straight away and the rest after the fight. This would be Pacquaio's biggest payday, but he knows that total figures could be around 150 million dollars and wants a 50 - 50 split. Floyd reckons he brings more to the table. The presenter more or less says that they both stand to make loads of money, so who cares if its a 50 - 50 split, which is when Floyd comes out with his "No-one else is going to put my kids through college........" crap. It's an interesting interview and the presenter is really on his game, leaving Floyd to do his normal "Like iv'e said before....." comments !!

In all honesty Yid, i think this will end up like the Jones - Hopkins second fight. They were bickering and mouthing off to each other for years about what the split would be and then when the fight finally got sanctioned, it was too late, neither were in their prime, particularly Jones, they had run out of other options and no-one gave a shit anymore. I can honestly see that happenning with Mayweather and Pacquaio. Mayweather is 35 now and will deal with Cotto, but Bradley could pull it off against Pacqauio and that would effectively mean he has lost "twice" in a row if, like me, you thought he lost to Marquez. Combine all that with what went off in the Floyd - Ortiz fight and the farce that was the Pacqauio - Mosley fight and people wil very soon just not give a shit whether it happens or not.

I couldn't care less if it happens at all to be honest.

It would be a serious anti-climax and should have happened 2-3 years ago.

I think the same way..................

In my opinion it will not happen and as you say, it should have happened a few years back. A good time would have been after Pacquaio beat Hatton.

It has to happen late 2012 or early 2013 or I for one will loose interest. I understand floyds case though, his offered manny $40 M with $20 up front, it's serious money that no other opponent will match, if Floyd makes $150 M good luck to him, his the draw, the undefeated fighter and the man to beat ! Hope it happens but won't count my chickens :TU:

Floyd isn't the draw. The fight itself is the draw!

Floyd trots out his ppv numbers etc but it's no coincidence his biggest one came against Oscar, who himself has always been the draw in his fights.

Fact is, Manny AND Floyd will have their career highest pay day against each other. Floyd can take half of $150m against Manny or 7/8ths of $35m against others.

I think Floyd beats him with ease. Shame he doesn't seem so convinced. He could even drag it out I reckon, make it look closer than it would be and take 75% of any rematch!

Agree totally. Floyd's attitude to getting in any fight that he might conceivably lose since De La Hoya has rather left him open to people making snap judgements about the fella, & his cojones (or lack of).

For the record, I don't think he's genuinely afraid of anything except losing his earning power. But I think Floyd's a genuinely strange man, I really do, & there are untold layers of weird shit in his psyche that the next few years will bring to light.

I mean, he does have a lot to live up to...

I don't really give a sh*t about this fight any more. Manny always hides behind the "I'll fight whoever my promoter tells me to" bo!!ocks and Floyd is just a nob.

Have enjoyed watching them both, but they can't expect anyone to regard them as ATG's when they haven't fought the very best of their era.

Datsue - do you think Miguel has absolutely no chance??? Floyd has had one fight at 154 against an aging fighter and he looked poor throughout it.

I don't give Cotto a chance (or much of a chance) at 147, but Floyd is relatively untested at 154, and Cotto looks rejuvenated. I think it s a good fight, and I give Cotto a chance.

Indeed, call me barmy.... I think Cotto at 154 is a tougher ask for Floyd than Manny at 147 (styles and all that). Cotto is going to look huge next to Floyd.

None. What. So. Ever.

Cotto rejuvenated? How so? He beat up the corpse of Mayorga, the corpse of Margarito, & Yuri fvcking Foreman & he's rejuvenated? Read that list back again, slowly, then try to say "Cotto looks rejuvenated" with a straight face.

Put me in with a heavy bag & I look stellar. Put me in with somebody who can fight, I look like the Roma Audley Harrison. Or rather, Tony Collins (same hair) on roller skates.

So, no, I do not think a one-&-a-half handed pressure fighter with a mediocre workrate, mediocre handspeed, mediocre footspeed, no true one-punch stopping power, a dodgy chin & a shit defence has a snowball's chance in Hell versus Floyd. I don't care how big he is. Of course, if you think differently of Cotto, then your mileage may vary, but I've never really rated him, meself. Some see him as a wondrously gifted all-rounder, I... do not. At all.

PS: Before some pedantic twat jumps on the word: "mediocre" in this instance is in relative terms, at true elite world level.

Datsue,

Your entitled to your opinion.... can I just ask - aside from Manny (obviously) who do you has a chance against Floyd? Martinez (mmm maybe, but I aint sure someone who lost 4 rounds against Barker is the fighter to give Floyd trouble).... seriously, who else?

I agree in someways that Cotto has been overated, I don't see him as a hall of famer (of course he is going in, but he aint an all time great IMO - unless he upsets Floyd). However, I think this is Floyd's toughest ask.

King - I largely agree, I don't think Cotto stands much of a chance, but I do feel that due to the size difference (Cotto is going to look massive next Floyd, as did DLH did - which was a fight that could have gone either way) as the reason why this is a tougher fight than Manny.

I think stylistically Manny is all wrong for Floyd.

I think the fight is too late now anyway. Mayweather IS NOT the draw, Pacman is the bigger draw, and certainly represents more money than he can make elsewhere, take the 5050 and shut it.

Can't agree in the slightest with this. Marquez is technically sound, decent but not spectacular movement and he gave Manny fits. Morales is technically solid also and he gave Manny problems first time around. Floyd is better than both, his movement has settled and technically he is a solid fighter. If anything he is all wrong for Manny and there isn't a single sign that your statement will hold fruit other than Judah, who fought a different style of fight, giving Floyd problems for a few minutes then getting out boxed round after round.

As for De La Hoya, I feel that it was a clear win for Floyd, he may have looked smaller but it was Oscar doing the little dance when clipped on the chin with accurate shots. Oscar was not accurate enough to win that fight and not good enough or hardened enough to sustain any good work he did.

Manny can't beat Floyd, I suspect that Roach, Arum and Knocz know this so they'll keep him well clear. If Freddie does want the fight it will be purely to be the first coach to hand Floyd a loss, but it won't happen in a million years because Manny's not good enough to compete with Floyd if Mayweather still has some form left.
I have always felt that Mayweather beat De La Hoya by four ot five rounds and didn't see it as a split decision at all.

Of course Floyd is the draw !!

A lot of people will tune in to that fight hoping to see Floyd beaten for the first time. That will not include myself because i am a Floyd fan and want him to beat Pacquaio. Manny hasn't been much of a draw since his fights with Hatton and Cotto. He had two points decisions over Margarito and Clottey, beat Shane over 12 boring rounds and then lost to Marquez in the eyes of a lot of people. I would say that the two together make the draw.

Oscar looked hopeless at times in that fight and seemed to take rounds were he looked the most agressive, but essentially he didn't know how to deal with Mayweather. I could quite easliy see where you get your 2 or 3 rounds from though :TU:

I thought the same, close, but Mayweather was a clear but close winner, Oscar faded in the last half.

I think DLH in his prime had the perfect style to beat mayweather Mosley too.

No, you do agree with it..... just got our wires cross. I mean Manny is all wrong for Floyd..... cause Manny is going to get a boxing lesson. Floyd all wrong for Manny, Manny all wrong for Floyd - don't matter how you phrase it - I can only see one winner here (as I said the post before, when I said Cotto has more of a chance) .

My point on Oscar vs Floyd is also getting lost in translation somewhat, my only point was on the size aspect. Yes, Floyd looked the puncher of the two. Although, surely we can agree that this fight was in at least Floyd's top three toughest fights - in terms of rounds lost etc. I think Oscar hitting the shoulders, gloves etc was having an affect on Floyd cause for large portions he wasn't throwing enough.

Only time I saw Floyd fight and I thought "mmm.... he's beatable" - Now was it due to fighting a big light middle. Thats the only reason why I think this is a harder ask than Pac Man.

I see Floyd and Pac in the same sentence let alone the same ring these day and just get annoyed .
Both camps have tarnished the sport with their unwillingness to meet mano-a-mano always citing a reason whether it's money, blood or big fornicating EGO's. :witzend:

bit bizarre when Costas gives him the ali-frazier point, that they needed each other to make the draw (as opposed to ali-norton) and that Mayweather needed pacquiao - mayweathers retort was that it only mattered what mayweather wants - and that Ali was 'pushed' giving the fans what they wanted, and would trade it in for his health.

i know the point FMJ was trying to make - that he wont be influenced by what the fans want to see in his decisions, but he came off sounding like he is worried pacman will permanently damage his health.
