Leapai V Kevin Johnson

Post by colin russell »

Alex Leapai is taking on Kevin Johnson in Brisbane March 18th. This guy Johnson has only lost one fight and that was against one of the Klisko boys. Now if thats not a step up what is. All the best Alex. :yay:

Great to see Alex getting in with top contenders internationally. Awesome work in getting Kevin to Aussie as well, cant knock the fight at all should be a good one.

But I think Johnson will simply outbox Alex who whilst can bang is very limited in my humble opinion, especailly in encountering a guy like Johnson. Question is does Johnson have enough pop to earn Alex respect as Alex could walk straight through him and catch him. Good sources tell me Kevin is a bigger puncher that his record suggest but he's been taught a specific style thats worked for him anbd stuck to the script.

Good matchup though.

This Heavyweight Explosion Card is being lined up May 30th in Auckland, they are throwing around names like Haumono, Hoppa, De Mori etc no mention of Alex though. He'd be a great edition.

Johnson has won his last three fights since Vitali beat him but the names are not very familiar.

Charles Davis: 19-20-2
Julius Long: 15-14-0
Harold Sconiers: 17-22-2.

Johnson's Boxrec ranking today has dropped to 42. I wonder why?

Johnson is a lazy slow starting fighter who may lack motivation for this one if Leapai gets inside and lets his punches go.

its a big ask tho.... at 6ft4 and one of the best jabs around it could be frustrating night for alex.

Nearly everybody Alex fights is taller than he is, but he wins much more than he loses.

In Alex's last ten fights only Darnell Wilson was shorter than him.

Johnson's speed and skills will pose more of a problem than his height.

no point trying to make fun of hoppa. he may not box like ali, but he is a good banger who can put good fighters on their ass if they r not carefull.

he did better than most thought he would fare that's for sure.

but u don't have to give due credit if u don't want to.

Today's Manly Daily has reported that the Manly Warringah A-Grade Rugby League competition has just got a bit more interesting with the return of the prodical son: John Hopoate as the new captain-coach of the Manly Cove team.

An appropriate club name for Hoppa, who was a real cove on the footie field: with fingers up the Khybers; a ring-in for Parramatta Rugby; a regular king-hit merchant and a specialist puncher of half-backs.

Club officials said "He is the right man for the job, Hoppa has the respect of the entire playing group". The competition's judiciary awaits with bated breath!

His son Will looks a good prospect as a winger.

if the opponents r of the calibre of junior pati, fighters like haumono should be fighting every month. every 3 or 4 months is pointless. u may as well retire imo.

i know haumono was returning from injuries, but if he seriously doesn't fight a kirby type fighter at least again soon, then he is kidding himself.

he doesn't have time to fight bums if he truelly wants to see if he can go to the top 10.
