What Is The LOWEST You Could Rate...
Robinson, pound-for-pound, within reason?
I havent seen a topic like this before. If he is the consensus pick for #1 (Armstrong for me), what is the LOWEST you could conceivably accept someone placing him? Top-5? Top-10?
For that matter, how low could you place the following consensus #1's in their best divisions (some I agree with, others, not)? Next to their names, the first number is where I place them, the second, the lowest I believe they could be slotted in...
HW - Ali (#2, #2)
LHW - Charles (#2, #2)
MW - Monzon (#2, #4)
WW - Robinson (#1, #3)
LW - Duran (#4, #6)
FW - Pep (#1, #3)

I have him rated at #2 all-time pound per pound. He in my list cannot go lower than #3 all-time.
At welterweight, I rate SRR at #1
At middleweight, I rate him at #2

Give me a break.
LW, for me, is THE deepest weightclass EVER. Duran is a legitimate choice anywhere from 1-6, but he gets too much credit relative to 135's other best and brightest.

Robinson no lower than 6th.
HW - Ali (#2, #2) Agree
LHW - Charles (#2, #2) Agree
MW - Monzon (#2, #4) 5th
WW - Robinson (#1, #3) Agree
LW - Duran (#4, #6) Agree
FW - Pep (#1, #3)

Although I appreciate seeing Monzon's name as the assumptive MW....I thought I was in the minority on that...with Hagler being the current pop culture favorite.

Is Srr the only guy U got ranked top 3 in two weights? For me the lowest I could rank him P4P is Probally #1elmersalsa wrote:I have him rated at #2 all-time pound per pound. He in my list cannot go lower than #3 all-time.

Re: What Is The LOWEST You Could Rate...
I wanted to stick to one boxer for each division, so as not to complicate things too much. I could have easily added Louis, Moore, Hagler, Greb, and others to the existing names. Monzon is as good a choice as anyone for MW, excepting maybe Greb, but I resisted him because even though hes my #1, the lack of footage may've raised dispute.BoxBuzz wrote:Although I appreciate seeing Monzon's name as the assumptive MW....I thought I was in the minority on that...with Hagler being the current pop culture favorite.

Any way Charles could edge in there (with his CV) as well, Saad, or no?

You guys totally underestimate just how many brilliant boxers there really have been over the years.
Robinson is one of the greats and maybe even the greatest, but there are plenty of others with claims.
No fighter has done what Fitzsimmons did. He is as close as a guarantee to a top 10 as you get and is to be honest a standout no 1, but that is not to say that others dont have claims and who knows. Langford and Greb in particular are very, very close to emulating Fitzsimmons. Benny Leonard, is one who was absolutely dominant at his weight division. Willie Pep is another. These guys are truly dominant. It really is impossible to measure the many different types of carreers.
For example, the likes of Darcy, Ketchell, McGovern, Tyson, Armstrong etc were completely dominant for a short period of time. Others like Louis, Monzon, Hagler, seemed close to unbeatable at their division, without ever really climbing in the weights. A fighter like Tommy Ryan, who is given virtually no credit today has a career which virtually mirrors Ray Robinsons. As great as Sam Langford was in his prime, he couldnt beat Blackburn, yet Blackburn is never mentioned. Jack Johnson was so dominant for so long, and beat good fighters much bigger than himself, yet you would be laughed at for putting him in a top 10 list today. Joe Gans was considered a master without piers. Barbados Joe Walcott did things modern welterweights can only dream of and Mickey Walker had no problem beating many of the big boys.
Ezzard Charles is nearly always a top 5 fighter yet he lost to Rocky Marciano when he outweighed him. Arguably they were similar natural weights. Yet rate Ezzard below Rocky and watch the forum overload. In reality it all depends on what criteria you use.

Not from 1 to 6. He is from 1 to 2. And that's about the right place we should put him. The great Roberto Duran was so dominant at lightweight that I just cannot place him lower than #2. Nobody is invincible, but I cannot see no lightweight of any era beating him.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Give me a break.

Duran like the greats Ezzard Charles, Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali or Willie Pep for example, are fighters in my book that can't go lower than #2 in their respective all-time weight class rankings. I just don't see it other way GI
