A case for a "pound for pound" season

Post by BoxBuzz »

Demonstrated below is the software's crack at a pound for pound fight.

The first fight is taking into account the weight factors. Valuev floors Lopez a hundred times before his corner eventually throws in the towel.

The second fight (pound for pound setting) Has Lopez feeling out Valuev in the first two rounds then dominating him and eventually knocking him out.

So...for those who would like to consider a "pound for pound" season. Here is some empiricals to ponder as you consider this possibility for the future.

Fight one...not leveling the field for weight discrepancy.........All I can figure is that Lopez pounds away at Nicolay's Jewels as he struggles to stay in the fight....lol Here's how it went.

01:25 Valuev leaves the jab just short. 13:0
01:27 Lopez scores to both the head and body and then moves away. 15:0
01:36 Both fighters move to ring center. 15:0
01:36 Lopez bangs the uppercut home. 17:0
01:41 Valuev really seems to be having trouble seeing. Referee Garcia must think so too as he's stopping the fight. He is taking Valuev to the far ropes and asking the ringside physician to take a look at the swelling under his left eye. 17:0
01:41 The ringside physician is looking closely at the swelling suffered by Valuev. Frankly, the doctor looks a bit concerned and he's quickly arrived at the conclusion that Valuev is incapable of seeing clearly out of that eye or adequately defending himself. This bout's going to be stopped here in round 11. It's going to be a TKO win for Lopez. 17:0
01:41 * It's a TKO win for Lopez! 17:0

Fight Result

Let's go to Howard Leigh for the call...

Ladies and Gentlemen! The winner by technical knockout at the 01:42 mark in Round 11 is...

I was reluctant at first, I struggle to get my head round the Foreman vs Pacquaio matchup and things like that.
But I'm willing to play iof that's what the Sim public wants.

It's a pretty good idea. I'd like a few more matchups tested though to check it runs OK.

I'd like to see the draft split if possible, first round upper weights, second round lower weights in reverse pick order. Every gets a great chance :TU:

Where would the cut-off point be? Then how would you decide what someone's weight-class is? A good idea, I'm just worried about how it would be executed.

this has potential.

.....though I'm leaning toward exclusive Super Lightweight Season....Or Jr Welter if you please. Until I can better understand all the ramifications of a pound for pound season. I'm good for two seasons. And I'd wouldn't mind practicing on more familiar terrain.

Nothing etched in stone mind ya.

As we converse about this, it is clear that a few more fights will need to be run by Buzz to see if this formula works. At the moment it looks promising, but it could still crumble under further testing (giving advantages to the heavier fighters).

One other thing I would say, what if someone wants Sugar Ray Robinson as a Welterweight and yet someone else attmepts to draft the Middleweight version of him?

How is that going to work.

And if we decide to choose a weight class - I'm going with Light Welterweight... It hasn't been done since The Great Deletion.
