Best 'Fighter' magazine cover
Best 'Fighter' magazine cover
Ok this is for those that can remenber the late 60s early 70's. Can you remember 'Fighter' I remember just about every issue.
Favourite cover was the 'Ali waiting for Fraser' on the front and the rear cover was 'Fraser waiting for Ali.'
Also remember the Harry Hayes cover with the title. 'into the socking seventies'.

The covers were OK, there was a rot of rubbish inside them.

I know its an old post but I recognized the name Harry Hayes. I'm one of his grandchildren and I'm trying to find footage of one of his fights, thought you might be able to help or know of anyone who could?

Harry retired in 1973 and I see on his record that some of his fights were shown on Channel 10 >>>The Phantom - HH wrote:I know its an old post but I recognized the name Harry Hayes. Some may have been shown on TV Ringside on Channel 7 too? I really don't know.
Back in those days if a fight wasn't on the TV the only other chance would be if someone recorded the fight on something like Super 8 film. Harry fought some big names like John McCluskey, Henry Nissen and Paul Ferreri. Those guys would be worth following up because I dare say they have stuff from their fight days on film. Also there is some old footage contained on DVDs like "That's Boxing" and "The Best of TV Ringside."
Re: Best 'Fighter' magazine cover
OK now from memory think Harry was on the first cover of 1970 and the byline was "Into the socking seventies." I hope you find what you are after

I still have afew FIGHTER magazine's some still have their cover's the one I really like is the one with Tony Mundine on one knee with Benny Briscoe in the background you can still see most of the cover but a fair bit of it is damaged I did have the Fighter magazine with Jeff Malcolm v Baby Cassius the cover was little snippet's of their 2nd Australian/Commonwealth Title fight in Griffith the cover is no longer with us.
