Esteban De Jesus vs Julio C. Chavez at 135
I was discussing this fight with a friend of mine and he told me that I was crazy because I pick De Jesus to beat Chavez at 135. I know I’m bias and probably don’t see the truth, but I just don’t see Chavez beating De Jesus at 135. Both of them at their very best I pick De Jesus. I think De Jesus was a much better fighter than Rosario which my friend keeps bringing him up to the discussion and I tell him De Jesus was a better fighter. He is saying Rosario is in the HOF and De Jesus is not, and that the reason for that is that Rosario was better. I’m telling him that he is crazy.
Can you guys help me out? Who do you guys pick?

I think its a bit like Manny and Juan Marquez. Id pick DeJesus but I wouldn't be 100% confident. Esteban was a great boxer and had a style that would cause Chavez problems imo.

You need a new friend if he thinks Rosario was better than DeJesus. Double-time if he thinks HOF inclusion is sound reasoning.
I fear you may grow dumber speaking with them.

DeJesus was bit better than Rosario. However there are many more fighters more worthy to be in the Hall of Fame than DeJeus. Rosario should not be in, but two wrongs don't make a right.
DeJesus would probably give Chavez a tough fight, but Chavez would probably win.

Obviously, there are more deserving guys than DeJesus, but by, "two wrongs dont make a right," do you mean he shouldnt be in the Hall?
Id strongly disagree.

Esteban De Jesus was an excellent fighter. But I don't think in his best day he would beat someone as good as Julio Cesar Chavez. The longer the fight, the better for J.C. Superstar
In terms of HOF, I believe that Esteban belongs in the hall of fame. He is in my HOF in my book. He is one of the 20 greatest lightweights ever, in my opinion.
Another fighter that should be in the HOF is Paddy DeMarco.

I guess JC Chavez was a much better fighter than Duran.
We all know that De Jesus on his best day would not beat Duran or be competitive.

Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by whether someone deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Obviously, there are more deserving guys than DeJesus, but by, "two wrongs dont make a right," do you mean he shouldnt be in the Hall?

Would he be the worst guy in? No. Would about he be in the bottom 10%? Yes.
However, that wasn't what I considering.
I was thinking of whether or not was among the very best that are not in. He is not.

Bottom 10!?
When was the last time you perused the Hall?

Oooooh....surprised this has never come up before. At first i thought DeJesus but Chavez was brilliant at 135. He faded fast once he went up in weight but was still formidable. i think he probably wins it. Wouldn't argue about it either way.
Re: Esteban De Jesus vs Julio C. Chavez at 135
WELL YOU GUESS VERY WRONG THEN jc great fighter loved him but much better than duran in your dreams. duran beats jc every day of the week easily and by beat i mean stands his ground and beats him or counters jc and outboxes him
duran was a master boxer as well as a murderous fighter and as a lightweight in my opinion the best . remember duran in his prime was a lightweight he went up and and fought and beat some big boxers and legends
i take julio to beat dejus just though

Esteban would just edge Julio, he had enough skill to do it.

Chavez wins 100 out of 100 times these two would have fought. I don't care to argue with anyone on this.
But the fact that DeJesus is not in the IBHOF is a crime. Of his five (5) losses two of them were against Duran, one (1) was against Antonio Cervantes and one (1) was against Saoul Mamby who was too much of a boxer on one hell of a run, and much bigger than DeJesus. DeJesus was arguably well past the point of drug addiction at his point of time as history clearly shows, and even then he didn't embarrass himself.
DeJesus was no match for Chavez. Period. But he, in my opinion, is one of the most deserving hall of fame fighters not in the hall of fame. For crying out loud, beating Duran once, dropping him twice, and being somewhat competitive with Duran in a trilogy should be enough to be a HOF'er. Watch his fight against Cervantes (another all time great who folks don't remember past the Aaron Pryor fight).
DeJesus was as good as it gets without being Duran, Armstrong, Benny Leonard, Whitaker etc.
Wake up folks.

I agree but it would be so close but de jesus for me
Re: Esteban De Jesus vs Julio C. Chavez at 135
Chavez wears him down and stops him late.
Esteban DeJesus is actually a little overrated on BoxRec. Outside of his upset win over Duran, the biggest name opponents he beat were Guts Ishimatsu, Alfonso Frazer, and Ray Lampkin twice. Not a bad resume, but there are better Lightweights and other fighters from Puerto Rico not in the IBHOF.

Re: Esteban De Jesus vs Julio C. Chavez at 135

Chavez would wear De Jesus down and stop him in the 15th and last round in a entertaining match.
