Adam Hollioake.

Post by Craig14 »

It's either a massive co-incidence (same name and birthdate) or former England cricketer (born in Aussie) is making his pro boxing debut at the age of 40 in Brisbane next month.

Hopefully he hasn't put on that much weight. I think he's only 5ft7 maybe 5'8. Besides I remember reading he'd declared himself bankrupt and cream cakes cost a fortune in aussie.

It is him. He was talking about going into MMA on his website. Looks like he changed his mind. He is fighting cruiserweight Leigh Blacka, who has had a couple of fights without setting the world on fire.

Hollioake must be desperate for money.

But how much would he get paid for fighting a 4 rounder against another novice?

Probably about as much as he would get for a week's work as a clerk.

Usually 1000 bucks for a 4 rounder. If he is real lucky he might get 1200.

He would have to make more than $26 per hour to earn that $1000 a week. Australian minimum wage is $15 per hour.

His Test career was very short, only four matches. A lot of the Tatts crowd would not remember him.

I'm old, but unsure if old enough? If I am, I'd look ridiculous in black dinner suit.

Have chatted with him on Twitter. Nothing to do with the money, just loves the fight game.

Nobody gets a fortune for his first fight, unless he has an Olympic Gold Medal. If it comes to that, Ali, Frazier and Foreman all started in six rounders. 1956 Heavyweight Gold Medalist Pete Rademacher fought for the World title in his first pro fight but was KOed in six. Baby steps, folks.

Unless he has had a big amateur career, he is gunna find it tough in the pros waiting till he is 40 to jump in but least he is having a go. He needs to be matched right and not thrown to the wolves at his age.

Blacka has not fought in nearly two years and has a 0-2 record, being stopped once. At least they have not thrown Hollioake in at the deep end.

I wouldn't read too much into it that he is 0-2. Lost a majority decision to Callan Orchard and only stopped in the 4th to Phil Maley. Both pretty handy fighters there.

Both fights were in the first half of 2010. Could Leigh be a bit rusty?
