Groves and his British Title

Post by avidlemon »

Should the bbobc be looking at stripping Groves of his title, and giving Kenny Anderson the chance to fight for the vacant title instead? Kenny has gone through a whole camp, only to have this sprung on him last minute. At the very least they should be looking into any connection between the fight being off, and the purse bid being won by SES for Stieglitz v Kessler.

If Groves fights for the WBO he's got to vacate anyway.
Even as bad as things can be with the Board, surely it will be Anderson v TBA ?
Sadly I think he'll have to wait until Groves' WBO tilt is announced.

Nice to see you over here Avid

Think it will end up being Kenny v Robin Reid both under the Matchroom banner so easy to make

Im sure if it was the other way round Fwrank would be calling for the offending fighter to be stripped of his title after pulling out at such late notice. An injury is one thing, but this has a particular smell to it...

I'm not sure Groves would have to vacate, Martin Murray didn't have to vacate his British title whenhe faced Sturm.

When Murray fought Sturm, he didn't have to vacate did he? I think the board could make a case for this being investigated further. I mean don't get me wrong, good luck to Groves against Stieglitz, but it has to be taken into consideration what this has done to Kenny. It is other guys lively hoods here. No fight = no money in most cases i would imagine.
Mind you if it's a genuine injury, then fair enough. I feel there are too many coincidences for this not to be looked at any further.

Hi Diggler, cheers mate. ESB don't like me any more! Should have jumped ship a long time ago and come on here full time instead

I think it would be very very unfair for Groves to be stripped of his title, i recently saw him on holiday abroad and he looked incredibly injured and certainly not in a position to train for a fight. how the board can strip him is beyond me. I managed to take a photo of george in his physical state, ill not publish it for fear of the repurcussions but i do have a picture and his injury is very very apparent. I think it would also be some time before george is ready to train for a world title fight too.

Not sure where you are coming from rhino, yes George has been on holiday but personally i dont think his injury (or ? injury) is very apparent. Can you prove it? pm me the picture or post it on here please.

Bellew didn't vacate his British title when he challenged for the WBO....neither did Murray vacate when he challenged for a World title... i dont think anyway
I don't think you have to vacate the British to fight for a World title, but Anderson was Groves mandatory challenger, the fight was arranged and contracts signed so I think Groves MUST fight Anderson next or he will be stripped/vacate.
