It's showing over here next month, and having just read Jeremy Schapps book on Braddock I'm quite looking forward to it. A real Rocky story.

I'm afraid to say it doesn't overly excite me to be honest. I will go and see it, but someone who's seen told me that the boxing parts (training, cornerwork etc.) aren't particularly inspiring.
But coming from a boxing person maybe that's just being picky?!

The fight scenes are usually the worst part of a boxing film. In fact it's normally the bit I look forward to least. Even the last fight between LaMotta & Robinson in Raging Bull is poor. The way DeNiro is shouting come on at Robinson near the end makes me cringe, they didn't even try and make him appear tired.

I just hope with Cinderalla Man they've done this heart warming story justice.

I'm just not into heavyweight boxing in a big way actually, I haven't even see the Will Smith film 'Ali' – I prefer the lives and stories of the great middles, welters, lightweights etc.

I saw Million Dollar Baby only last night. Good film, but the fight scenes are daft. Especially the final fight, and the various things the female 'WBA Champion' is allowed to get away with...

Blatent elbows to the face... throws.... choke holds.... punching someone down on the canvas. Just make the film seem a bit "Rocky 4" (i.e. daft)....

Yeah i enjoyed Million Dollar Baby as well but the fight scenes were dodgy, knocking everyone out in the first round was a bit daft and the way she was injured was barmy. That other girl wouldn't have been able to get away with something like that, it was a blatant cynical bit of fouling. Overall it was a good film though.

The fight scenes in all films are shit, Raging Bull is a great movie, but as for the fight scenes, it's more Raging bullshite.

Only one with realistic fights scenes is that one with Jimmy Flint and Jimmy Tibbs in it which Channel 4 made that was because most of the cast were boxers or ex-boxers.

It's not just the fight scenes though is it? the terminology they use and the training techniques etc eg, like when Clint's character was taking the women on the pads, it was plainly not boxing people, just being overly picky I s'pose!

its not that hard is it, i mena thety could film my back garden at 5 am after a big fight when the pads come out to see Ian and jame sin relaistic fight scenes.

me i was indoors having a smoke hahaha

I was in the US in May while they were running the trailers for "Cinderella man".... looked generally "OK", but the short clips of the fight scenes were - maybe not surprisingly - a bit false. The director or the producer - not sure which - was talking a lot of nonsense in the trailer about the "message" of the film, making it out to be some sort of deep, meaningful message for all of mankind.

I doubt the movie will mention the arrangement whereby Braddock got a percentage of all Joe Louis' purses for the following ten years though....

I don't think I could watch this in a cinema, surrounded by non-boxing types ....probably get it on DVD when it's available.

Good boxing movies...? There was one with Anthony Quinn and a young Ali, I think it was called "Requiem for Heavyweight"....?

I think the best boxing film I've seen is 'Fat City' with Stacey Keatch and directed by John Huston..... there isn't that much actual boxing in it but what is there is far more realistic than Raging Bull... which for me is a little overrated. The fight scenes in 'Somebody up there likes me' were pretty good too.
I can't get too excited about this latest film as I can't stand Crowe... he's a prize prat!....

Pushed all the appropriate buttons for an Oscar nod. But, as a boxing flick it pales besides the decent boxing films
