Does anyone have any specific drills or methods for increasing punching power apart from obvious weight training exercise's,

Any help will be much appreciated

I don't pretend to be an expert in physical fitness, but it is my understanding that punching power is just natural. Either you have it or you don't.

I too have heard this myth that doing weights increases your punching power... Guess what? IT DOESN'T!

Yes you will become physcially stronger (being able to lift heavier weights) and you will increase your muscle mass, but that does not equate to explosvie punching power.

i would have thought learning about weight transfer would be beneficial. maybe something that opens the hips to help generate a better centrifugal force. might be worth trying a routine stepping in with your shots, playing about from different ranges, that kind of thing. I think working on your timing is the best, try and get that "whip" so that the force is on the end of your shots, what the chinese would call "fajing" but is basically good body mechanics.

Get yourself one of those rubber weighted medicine balls around five pounds. Take the ball with both hands extend your arms all the way over your head and slam it to the ground as hard as possible. The ball will bounce a little. Grab it at your waist height and repeat. The key is to do this as fast as you can over three minutes with a one minute rest. You should do this for five rounds and increase as it gets easier (not)

With the same ball lay flat on your back. Balance the ball with both of your hands but keeping all of the weight on one hand bring the ball down to your chest level then push the ball off of you and toss it as high as you possibly can catch and repeat. Remember to do this as fast as you can over 5 three minute rounds with a minute rest. Increase as the rounds get easier.

Get yourself a old basketball. Get in the push up position. Put both of your hands on the basketball and do pushups off the ball. After the first set of 25 spred your legs about shoulder width apart and do 25 more reps. Once your done with those 25 go back to your feet together and repeat until you have four sets. Increase as they get easier.
