Jeff Fenech vs Barry McGuigan. What If?

Post by KOJOE90 »

At Featherweight over 15 rounds who would have won between these two all action, hard hitting, popular Featherweight Champions?

The Thunder From Down Under vs The Clones Cyclone

Any views fight fans? :box:

Barry McGuigan,

Fenech wins - too rough and tough.
I don't see Barry having the tools to beat him.

Fenech by TKO late or UNI DEC -

Agree Fenech too tough and he wears McGuigan down - The volume of punches Fenech through would just be too much -

I don't see how Fenech could wear Barry down. Barry's samina was amazing, he proved this in 100+ degree heat in Nevada in a climate he'd never experienced before. I actually see Barry's damaging body work wearing Jeff down for a late TKO. Barry was a very strong feather with a geat chin. Fenech wold definitely be the busier but Barry would be doing the more damaging work. A bit like JC v Meldrick Taylor

Not a chance was Barry on Fenech's level at FW - Barry never fought anyone even close to Fenech in terms of pressure and toughness - Fenech fought plenty of hitters of Barry's class -

Barry was a tough SOB....but Fenech is a level above him - Fenech chin at FW was extremely solid - Fenech by wide UNI or TKO on cuts -

Come on people

If these Boxrec records are acurate Fenech only really fought 4 contests at FW. 3 of these were KO victories and a UD over Marcos Villasana.

Barry fought Pedroza, Bernard Taylor, Juan La Porte, Jose Caba, Valerio Nati

Only the heat in Nevada beat him against Cruz.

And a cuts defeat toJim McDonnell.

So how can you say Jeff Fenech was a level above him at Feather weight.

A Technical Decision win over Carlos Zarate at Super Bantam doesn't make him a great Featherweight amnd when he stepped up Azumah Nelson and Calvin Grove finished him.

So no I will stick my neck out here and go with the Clones Cyclone.

Having seen a lot of both men I have to agree that Fenech would be too tough for Mcguigan.... Jeff by late rounds stoppage or ko I think.

I can't see either man wilting. Both had tremendous stamina, good power, good chins and phenomenal work-rate. Fenech is the greater of the 2 in p4p terms but Barry, maybe, naturally bigger.

1 thing I will say is that Barry had trouble when someone pushed him back. It would be a great fight but I'd just give the edge to fenech by decision.
