So to be clear this is for the WBA Interim World title, not the International title that Munroe won a little while back?

If so it's good news I think. It would gurantee a fight with Rigondeaux or a World title for one of our guys. It's been a long time since we have had a World titlist at one of these weight divisions isn't it. No disrespect at all to Michael Hunter and sorry to go off topic but Ioften think back to his fight with Eesham Pickering and wonder how Pickering would have fared in a World title fight had Hunter stayed down when he was getting knocked down a lot early on in their fight. I think at that point Pickering was around about his peak and I do think his awkward style would have transitioned well to World title level even if it would have been a short lived reign as a World champ if he had won.

Interim belt. They are one and two in the rankings. Poxon announced it on Ringside as the reason why they turned down the Frampton offer. Eddies face was a picture.

Good fight. Hopefully they put a big show on in a good venue.

Hmm. Didn't Rigondeaux just, er, "unify" the WBA titleabout a month ago?

We need some kind of autofilter linked to a news feed that searches out keywords so every time you type "WBA title" it inserts the words interim or super, explains exactly the circumstances of their belt fracturing again & automatically adds a big rant about how the governing body is a big shower of useless, corrupt, venal bastards.

Anyway. Good fight. Quigg on points, if he doesn't stand in front of Munroe.

No he didn't beat Hunter however in his defence against him he had Hunter down on the canvass (I think) 3 times, might have been twice. Hunter went on to get a majority nod in his home town and a year later contested a World title. Not saying it was a dodgy decision or anything like that. What I was saying was in my opinion at that point I reckon Pickering would have fared better at World level thus had Hunter not survived that early onslaught I do think there's a chance Pickering could have gone on to better things. As it was his career never recovered after that loss.

It was twice, I remember thinking Pickering had nicked the fight but it was a close one so you can't complain either way.
I think Pickering would of faired much better in a World title fight, his better chin and defense being the main reasons but I don't believe he'd have beaten any of the World champions at the time. Molitor was a class act back then, not the shell of a fighter he is now.

Pickering did have the chance to fight Valdemir Pereira, but for some reason that fight got shelved (Pickering may have got injured) and Pereira defended against Eric Aiken. Aiken then defeated Pereira, that imo might have been Pickering's best chance at winning a World title.

I'v managed to find the fight on youtube and to be fair the early knockdowns were a bit different to how I remember them. For some reason or other I seemed to think Hunter was struggling to get up from the last one, but watching again this clearly wasn't the case. I do tho think people forget that back then Pickering was actually pretty good and had he won that fight with Hunter World titles were on the horizon (obviously Hunter got his shot after 2 routine defences or the European belt), he had power and the Ingle style is always awkward, but alas after this fight he seemed to regress considerably.

Hopefully Quigg or Munroe can go on to shine on the World stage after this fight tho.
