Frazier is well better than 50/50 against Norton.
Holyfield is better than 50/50 against Marciano.
Ali is better than 50/50 against Holmes.
Tunney is better than 50/50 against Quarry, though it would be one interesting fight.
Don't know much about the lighter weights, but I would think Duran rates better than 50/50 against Basilio.

Griffith/Gavilan is always my first answer for impossible to call fights.
BTW, Gene Fullmer would massacre Vito Antuofermo.

Any version, getting a gift draw in a fight he was badly out-classed in hardly changes the gap in quality between them.AngryGoon38 wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Griffith/Gavilan is always my first answer for impossible to call fights.

How would you guys feel about Liston-Holmes and Foreman-Holmes?
Aren't they fairly close to a coin flip?

Those are two bouts that are really no more than 55-45 in either direction, really.

I missed the Liston one, agreed on that being very hard to call. I like Larry over Foreman in the 80/20 range.
Re: Very Indecisive Hypotheticals
Giving prime Foreman only a 20% shot against Holmes seems out of line to me.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I missed the Liston one, agreed on that being very hard to call. I like Larry over Foreman in the 80/20 range.
I can definitely see Holmes prevailing, but Foreman in the early rounds would be very dangerous.

Re: Very Indecisive Hypotheticals
They could split ten bouts 5-5, the way I see it.
Holmes was way too willing to battle back when hurt, and struggled with excessive pressuring. He never faced a top-notch finisher until Tyson, and I couldve beaten half his title challengers. The few good ones were all green and anyone who made it tough never got a rematch.
Foreman was not Shavers.
Im not saying this is by any means the whole picture, but it adds up to a whole lot more than 20%, IMO. Liston was better than Foreman...he wasnt that better.

It might be, George was a wrecking machine. But if you're asking me, I'd bet heavily on Larry. I'm not always right when I do that, but I certainly don't do it on what I perceive to be a toss-up.yancey wrote:Giving prime Foreman only a 20% shot against Holmes seems out of line to me.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I missed the Liston one, agreed on that being very hard to call. It's not about Liston being better than Foreman for me. It's his jab matching Larry's.Goodnight, Irene wrote:They could split ten bouts 5-5, the way I see it.

Re: Very Indecisive Hypotheticals
Im talking about a fight at 140lbs. De La Hoya was too inexperienced at 135, and Chavez too small at 147.
Not that your opinion on De La Hoya matters. I could substitute Chavez's name for Diosbelys Hurtado and youd still be, "laughing."

Duran -v- Whitaker @ 135 - I really can't call this one. Part of me thinks that Duran walks right through Whitaker & punches holes in him & another part of me thinks that if SRL could make Duran do a 'no mas', Whitaker would have him singing a karaoke version of it at Panama City airport, with the Beatles as a backing band! 8)

At 140 lbs vs the great Julio Cesar Chavez? Do you believe that Oscar was that good? DLH is no where in Chavez' class for cripe sake!Goodnight, Irene wrote:Im talking about a fight at 140lbs. De La Hoya was too inexperienced at 135, and Chavez too small at 147.

Re: Very Indecisive Hypotheticals
Oscar's style would always give Julio trouble. His thinking deficiency isn't as much of an issue because Chavez constant pressure will keep him reacting instead of thinking. And contrary to what dolts like Elmer want to believe, Oscar was not short in toughness. Great as Chavez was, he NEVER beat a fighter the quality of DelaHoya. It's absurd to just hand it to him.
