Funny to think after Scott got home following his arrest, he went for a long run :box:

I agree - this is typical of modern society, it is always somebody else's fault ........

Whilst i agree that it would seem Scott has a serious and ingrained problem with alcohol, i honestly believe that if anyone has intervened to prevent him trying to relaunch his career after all these years then that person should be ashamed of themselves.

Harrison has done wrong but he's served his time - in a foreign jail, away from his family. That is serious, hard prison time. Surely he should be left alone now to relaunch his career? Some people involved with this sport have absolutely no morals whatsoever - all they care about is money.

By the way, i have absolutely no inside information as to the legal situation here and have no idea who - if anyone - has threatened to injunct Harrison. I'm not making any implications whatsoever in regard to individual promotors. I just feel very strongly that sometimes the behaviour within our sport is beyond defence.

Just read that Maloney has 'severed all business ties' with Harrison.

That should loosen things up, then.

I agree, it does seem a bit pathetic that a big time promoter would try to scupper the comeback of a fighter who hasnt fought in over 7 years and is coming back from the problems Scott is coming back from. Harrison is taking a lot of stick on here for what hes done but the fact is that alcoholism is an illness and stress is a well known trigger provoking a 'fall off the wagon'. Its a shame that he wasnt even allowed to have a few comeback fights before his current and expromoters started wranging over who gets a chunk out of his purses, (which surely will not amount to much at start at least!) but money seems to be the bottom line in boxing and comes before any consideration of the person taking the punches and any regard over what they might be going through outside the ring. With what happened to Darren Sutherland youd think times had changed but sadly not....

Nah, that's not the problem, Dan.

Maloney's contract was a managerial one; this relates to a promotional one.

I think this further shows that Harrison is in no fit mental state to be allowed anywhere near a boxing ring.

Hold on a minute. If Scott were under contract with a particular individual, why shouldn't that person take a stand if it became apparent that he (Scott) was intent on breaching that contract? Why do you think a guy should be freed of all his existing contractual obligations on release from prison?
I don't know why he doesn't just fight for whoever he has the contract with.

The gut instinct is to type "scrote bag" into the this thread.

But obviously the problem is deeper, because if this is his natural reaction to adversity in life, to get absolutely smashed, violent and abusive - not to mention drink driving....

Well, I'll stick with my gut instinct on him.

Scott Harrison was a nice modest boy and his dad was an ordinary everyday family man. They lived in a nice house in a nice area.I mention all this to explain that they were decent people . A background of criminality and involvement with the police was alien to them .
Somewhere along the road this has all went haywire - and I do not know how or why .

Peter , I think is still the same decent man ,very quiet and polite , until it comes to defending his son -and who can blame him for that ?

But ,sadly , the same cannot be said for Scott . From what I have heard , albeit third hand , he has for many years been a detestable individual with no redeeming features whatsoever . It is relatively rare in boxing to meet someone who is simply 'bad' to the core . I understand for instance from people who met him that Sonny Liston was just evil . I'm struggling to find others who would meet this criteria .

Frank Maloney is quite right to ditch him -with no boxing career he is just another thug on the street for people to avoid .

Spot on Macho. Actions have consequences and its time a 35 year old man came to realise that. Poor kids.

Surely after years in prison and seven years without a fight his contract with any promotor MUST be considered expired??? What is in that contract that could possibly bind him after all this time?

Perhaps he was on a deal based on a number of fights (without a time limit)? Maybe he assumed it wouldn't be an issue, but someone else thought it was. How does that work legally? I mean, if an artist signed a 5 album deal, thats a 5 album deal however long that'd take to produce and release. Do boxing contracts work in that way? Or is there a standard amount of time after which the contract would be invalid?

Got to feel sorry for Peter Harrison in all this, he seems a decent man. And at the end of the day its his son he's trying to defend and protect.

i cant believe any1 can seriously point this at a promoter for having scott under legal contract. To say "let him get on with it" is just so nieve. What if said promoter had, lets say, lost a fortune in the past because scott pulled out of a fight at the last minute. Or had to rescedule shows due to scotts legal wrangles. Maybe said promoter would feel hes owed something for the fighter that is afterall contractually obliged to fulfill his agreement. Easy to paint promoters as pantomime villains, but putting shows together costs money im sure. training expenses have to be recouped etc..

end of the day scotts a grown man, read the small print. why sports people are deemed exept from this rule i'll never know. no 1 else seems to evoke such sympathy for bad business desisions.

I just find this story desperately sad. It must be heartbreaking to watch your son chuck his life away. Scott just seems, at present, to be incapable of straightening himself out.I just hope that he can get in the ring again soon, grab a win, and then realise how much fun it is doing things well and move on from there.

I don't think the priory has that great a success rate. I think it's a rest room for the rich. Not sure what is the best solution mind

MachoMan09 what an idiot you come across, we are discussing Scott Harrison and the serious problems he has and some how you manage to slander Scotland as a whole.

I think you will find that Scotland is not the only place in the world or the UK for that matter where there is a problem with drink and drugs.

Scott Harrison has a problem I just hope he manages to find solve it before it is to late. Peter Harrison is a fantastic man who I have had the pleasure to train with several times and who can blame him for defending his son.

Good Luck to Harrison.

I really rated Harrison. Hard, tidy fighter with massive cojones in his day. And I would never deny a man the right to earn a living. But what he 'had' is gone. It's gone and won't come back. I work everyday with people with drink and drug problems and the first step is admitting you have a problem. Scott has spent YEARS in prison and had a lot of time to reflect on his life. He's come out and literally days before a comeback fight he's gone on a bender and got himself arrest for being a public nuisance. He's then gone for a run. He's in denial and he is in the grip of addiction. Alcohol has such a hold over some people it never let's go. The comparisons with poor Benny Lynch (my favourite ever fighter) are startling. This won't end well while Harrison. And especially while he has trainers and promoters excusing his antics.

Thing is; as I understand; Scott is not a nice person even when sober. I've heard, not first person experience. Something seems to be eating him.....who knows

He's even stated Benny lynch is one of his heroes. Maybe he's trying to emulate Lynch all the way who knows.

I was never Harrison's biggest fan but I would have loved to see Harrison vs Alex Arthur, had all the ingredients.
