Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
I appreciate that Fury will have a ‘traveller’ following at the fight; that there will be ‘Fury fans’, particularly as he has been on terrestrial TV; and that Rogan maybe doesn’t have the same goodwill towards him as he did a couple of years ago. Nevertheless, I still believe the atmosphere at the Odyssey will be overwhelmingly very pro-Rogan and anti-Fury as Rogan will be viewed by most if those there as the home fighter.
If the atmosphere is anything like the two Rogan – Sexton fights at the Odyssey it will be very intense and hostile to Fury - so does anyone think that Fury will be affected by a crowd that is vociferously pro-Rogan and anti-him? I know he is a laid back character, but if he is expecting the crowd to be in his favour and then suddenly finds out that it’s completely the opposite, how will this affect him especially given his ‘mental issues’?

I reckon if it is an overwhelmingly Pro-Rogan house all baying for Rogan to knock his head off I reckon it might fire Fury up to show that he is a force to be reckoned with on the Heavyweight scene not just here in Britain but also in Europe, because despite his inactivity Rogan is still a respectable name on the British scene with a PrizeFighter win, victories over Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton but also it would have to be a dominant performance if he has aspirations to fight for a World title in the future.

Sexton dealt with it. No reason Fury shouldn't be able to.mjl78 wrote:I appreciate that Fury will have a ‘traveller’ following at the fight; that there will be ‘Fury fans’, particularly as he has been on terrestrial TV; and that Rogan maybe doesn’t have the same goodwill towards him as he did a couple of years ago. Although I think Rogan can win this on account that Fury isn't very good.

Fury's fans are pretty hostile. This will have no reflection on the fight, can't see it being anything but an easy win for Fury. Fury may have his limitations but he's still way out of Rogan's league.

according to a mate of mine who went to Rogan - Sexton, Belfast is NOT the place to be bringing any kind of attitude... a load of Blues fans got a proper doing that night, he said, so Fury's fans would probably be well-advised to keep their necks wound in......yid14 wrote:Fury's fans are pretty hostile. .

This version of Rogan is a poor comparison to the one that beat Skelton. Do you remember the raffle his fans were doing for a signed picture of Ali at Fury v Chisora fight!yid14 wrote:Fury's fans are pretty hostile. Re: Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
I can't see a hostile reception for Fury. Considering he had plenty of support for the Firtha fight at the King's Hall. He has family connections in Co. Antrim so it will be like a home fight for Fury having it in Belfast. Also Fury and Rogie are on good friendly terms at the moment and the fans know that. When Rogie fought Sexton there was alot of bad blood between them and the fans at the fight obviously took a disliking to Sexton because of that.
Fury is a bit of a character with plenty of loose talk. The Irish/Northern Irish fight fans who will attend the fight love that kind of fighter, so I see Fury getting a good reception.

Re: Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
I can see the crowd getting behind their man, but won't be adverse to Fury either.
Re: Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
Actually mate, people that I've been speaking to have really took to Tyson Fury and see him as "one of our own" because of his Irish descendency. From what I've been hearing, I don't think there will be hometown favourite in this fight. Boxing fans I've been speaking to (and I've spoken to quite a few) are really into Fury.mjl78 wrote:I appreciate that Fury will have a ‘traveller’ following at the fight; that there will be ‘Fury fans’, particularly as he has been on terrestrial TV; and that Rogan maybe doesn’t have the same goodwill towards him as he did a couple of years ago. Actually, odd though this sounds, there's a possiblity that Fury might turn out to tbe the crowd favourite. Boxing fans will know that a Fury victory could see their man get a Klitschko fight whereas a victory for Rogan would probably get him that WBU Title that he's always wanted.
There's a number of people who have went off Rogie for going to the live news and declaring that "I'm going to be the first Irish World Heavyweight Champion" and trying to arrnage a fight with Pineda.
People have lost respect for him.
Re: Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
I was there for both the Sexton Vs Rogan fights and I can tell you it is one hostile place. I remember the first fight us Norwich lads was about 40 or so of us including Sams Dad and Brother went drinking round Belfast prior to the fight and met only a couple bolshie lads but nothing we couldn't deal with. Then after the fight we were actually cordoned by the venue security and asked to wait 10-15 mins before we left our seats, then we were guided to a back exit and advised not to hang around, so we all jumped in taxi's double quick back to our hotel then stayed fairly local as the taxi drivers advised us not to go out as a lot of the Belfast lads who he'd met were off out on the piss and where fuming.
The atmosphere was intense and Sam handled like a true pro and I think at times he even fed of it, made him feel good once he started silencing the Belfast fans, even tho he had some plastic bottles and cups thrown at him on his way in and out it didn't seem to effect him.
Fury has Irish roots so I don't think they will be too harsh towards him in comparison to Sam, as it's technically 2 Irish men, travelers in the ring. Granted Rogan is very popular in Belfast but I think the majority of the fans will just be looking forward to appreciating a good brawl. I do think that Fury will feel the atmosphere and he has rarely walked in to a ring as 'the away boy' or being 'the least liked' so it will be something quite new to him I think.
I'd like to see Rogan win and I think if Rogan comes like he did for Sam in the first fight, then Fury is going to suffer if he's kept on the back foot. I think it's more a case of what Rogan turns up. As in my eyes it's Fury's fight late stoppage or clear points, unless Rogan comes out fit and at the very top of his game.

Re: Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
Rogan's not a traveller.
Fury's not Irish.
I know, I class Macklin as an Irishman and not Fury but the reason for that is that Matt is good and from a decent family; you can keep any of our travellers who've been over there a while.

I don't think a howling mob will affect a fight where an unbeaten, active, younger boxer with a massive advantage in height and reach takes on a boxer who has not fought in over a year and who is approaching his 41st birthday.

They'll be outnumbered 20 to 1 in the house and westies from the Falls wont take not shít, win, lose or draw. It will be a staunch Rogan crowd in there on the night. Fury wont be getting any love, green shorts or no green shorts.Boxing Pirate wrote:God help the place when Fury loses, because his supporters will go nuts.
I liken it to Bugner beating Cooper.
Fury KO9
Re: Will Fury be affected by hostile atmosphere?
I know what Crease is saying about Rogan having lost some respect among boxing fans but I think Slap is right when he says that it’ll be a massively pro Rogan crowd – a big proportion of the crowd there will be west belfast blokes, not necessarily hardcore boxing fans, out on a Saturday night looking to get pissed up and have a good time and get behind their man, which is going to be Rogan. I’m not bothered either way who wins, just want to see a good scrap which it should be while it lasts.
Anybody know where/when the last press conference/weigh-in is scheduled for and if so whether it is open to the public. I emailed Hennessey email address on their website didn’t get a reply.
