Scott Harrison Vs Joan Guzman

Post by The Hawk »

I see Joan Guzman became the WBO mandatory challenger for Scott Harrison on Friday, not that the mandatory can fully mean mandatory with the WBO at times, but with Guzman having held the WBO at Super Bantamweight and he's now fought in the eliminator, this could well happen.

I think Harrison Vs Guzman would be a very exciting fight, very dangerous for Scott and one I'd go to Glasgow and see if it pulled off. I know Guzman was with Warren in the past, so no idea if that would affect it being made. Any thoughts on what would happen if this fight was to take place?

Its an exciting prospect I think, Harrison does not seem to be getting his chance with the top guys, so Guzman coming to him from the lower weight through the WBO process could be good for the fans.

Also done a poll here to see what many of you would think would happen.

I see them going toe to toe here. Harrison is huge for the weight, and very strong. Guzman I think will be too small, and will crumble under Scotts power. Scott has a tendancy to get outboxed but Juan aint the man.

I think Guzman will beat Harrison if they fight. He fought on Sky at Superfeather before and looked comfortable doing so, don't really see the size difference being that much of an issue - would there really be that much in it? And Guzman has power in both hands. Guzman wins late for me.

thata exactly how i see it also, Scott for me is gonna get exposed when he steps up to the real world champ level. He already did really against Polo and medina and they arent even the very best.
no doubt Guzman.

Look for Maloney to avoid this fight at all costs - Guzman is way more dangerous than the type of opponents Baloney is looking for ( by that I mean the fights he's looking to actualy make, as opposed to the dream match up he TALKS about )

Even a match up with Chi might be a less dangerous fight than Guzman.

I always find it funny to watch Malony when Scott has a bad day. He looks like he is set for a breakdown or summit. Like he bet his house on him to win. Poor fornicator

In both the Brodie and Polo fights Scott actually looked hurt and not this unstopable fighter some believe he is. Guzman is a better boxer than Harrison (who isn't?) and has the power to hurt him. Scott's previous high volume of shots has also been going down recently and I see Guzman def. stopping him...not that it will happen

Still waiting to see what happens after round 4 against the high volume of Monshipour, or even Larios.

That Thai Guzman fought the eliminator with was well dodgy - real WBO calibre. Eliminators *should* be between two valid contenders to a title, but can you imagine the uproar if this Thai were lined up for Harrison?! And he took Guzman 12, even winning up to 3 rounds on one card (and that's including a knockdown!).

Tough Joe Morales was also winning rounds back when they showed him fight Guzman on Sky. I remember Iain Darke said something like "I think it's safe to say he'll never see super-bantamweight again". Yet in his next fight, about 6 months later, he is all the way down to 8'9. Also interesting to note that the "super-tough", "unstoppable" Joe Morales was stopped in his next fight by a 5'5 former flyweight from Tanzania with 9 losses.

I've been a Guzman fan since he appeared in Cardiff but all the talk is wearing a bit thin: "we plan to unify 122", "Guzman will smash all champs between 122 and 130", etc.

He looks sensational versus journeyman typ.... actually no, he doesn't, he visibly lost rounds against Morales and Jandaeng, and only beat Beltran Jr. by 2 points on one card.

Unconvinced.

1 - guzman (close, both start very slow) 10-9

2 - Thai 10-9 (another slow round, classier counters from the Thai)

3 - Thai 10-9 (out-boxing Guzman with the southpaw style, it is embarrassing at times)

4 - Thai 10-9 (quite big)

5 - Guzman 10-9 (could easily be even)

6 - Guzman 10-8 (Thai goes down hard early in the round but is unhurt; the amount of punches landed flush after the knockdown raises questions over Guzman's power)

7 - Guzman 10-9 (classic Guzman round: throws 2 classy hard-looking combinations then rests for 2:30. The Thai is so one-dimensional he can't make him pay)

8 - Even 10-10 (turned into a bit of a slugfest, Guzman gets the better of the action for the most part but is caught flush on the break a few times. Could be a close Guzman round for the volume he landed inside, though the Thai's single outside shots were classier and more noticeable, hence equalling things out)

9 - Even 10-10 (both throw lots of flurries, and Guzman's look better, but the lack of effect from either shows this is just a cardio exercise)

10 - Thai 10-9 (really, really ineffective stuff from both. The first half is sloppy as Guzman rests against the ropes - the Thai with his head buried under his chin and unloading lots of sloppy punches. Guzman starts to fight halfway through but makes no mark and the Thai actually gets off the better shots. Could make a case for an even round, but overall the Thai stunk less)

11 - Thai 10-9 (almost a 10-8. The Thai starts off by backing up Guzman with the jab, eventually he stops running and takes his mandatory rest against the ropes with the Thai unloading his usual array of really raw and sloppy punches (some of which are landing). Then, with 50 seconds left, a HUGE left hand smashes Guzman full on. He takes three or four more of these big, novice-ish wacks, but his chin manages to hold up well.

12 - Guzman 10-9 (Guzman lands the flashier combinations but does a really irritating thing by sprinting backwards and taunting the Thai for about three quarters of the round: "ha ha, no chance you're getting the decision in my hometown!". The punches that Guzman lands have no effect on the Thai, who keeps walking forward goading Guzman to fight - ala Hagler - Leonard. Weak finish to a pretty poor fight (for supposed 'world' title challengers)).

Guzman - 10 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 + 9 + 10 = 115

Thai - 9 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 9 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 = 114

Guzman 115 - 114 Thai

119-108 what a fornicating joke. The bent bastards must have been counting the Dominican flags in the audience to come up with that disparity.

That Thai's skills were raw/ordinary and the best thing going for him was that he was fit and came to fight.

Guzman's clowning and bravado fooled no one. If you smile and shake your head after having it snapped back from a flush punch then it doesn't eliminate the point scored, sorry.

Overall a mundane fight between two fighters who looked average at best.

And no way is Guzman a natural feather - I saw his flesh wobble when he threw a punch at times. Maybe at his natural weight he might regain some power and semblance of an engine, because virtually drawing with an unknown novice who's name resembles 'turd sack' does not a marquee fighter make.

That is bollocks if he defends against Pickering and that's it for the year.

Marquez is at the top of the slide, so to speak, and now would be a good time to go for it (rather than in 2002/3).

Anyway, back to reality and I thought he'd be too big and would walk down Skinny Hussein... but just before it got called off I was actually warming to the upset.

Said it at the end of last year, and it looks like it's going to come true, it's almost time to lump him in... dun dun dun...

Why Esham Pickering he a super bantamweight. I cant think he would want the fight. He got eu defence against Hunter sometime soon.

Harrison should fight Polo again. The Aussie Hussein is most likely opponent
