On the afternoon of the event, there were 43 venues in NSW, 17 venues in QLD, can't rcall VIC but not many. Easy less than 100 venues Aust wide.
I have never seen any figures on household sales.

That's a shame, I bought it on fox, only the second time I have done that.
Will certainly do it again.
Next time will have to have some boxreccers in north east Melbourne over.

rubbish.

they have been in the media many times especially in the last 12 months.

they might not have a great connection to the general population as such, but anybody that reads a newspaper would know who geale and dib are.

bullshit the average Joe doesn't know who they are that's fact just ask someone. You only see them in the paper because your a diehard boxing supporter and your looking to read something about them.

anyone that reads the sport section at least, would have seen both geale and dib.

the problem is they wouldn't have taken much notice cause boxing is not among the popular sports. the public took more notice of the hoppas, mundines, haumono's cause they were linked to popular sports.

if green didn't bang on and on about mundine avoiding in the earlier days, he'd be known as much as geale is now. the fact many people didn't like mundine helped green become this good guy willing to shut the big mouth up.

if u showed a photo of dib and geale to people in a pub, most would recognise them imo.

so they r known, its just that boxing is a small sport and many just don't have an interest in it.

Well Bill Mordey must of did something right with Jeff Fenech because everyone knew who he was & everyone watched him.

That's common knowledge, but not enough people watch them because I heard they lost money on that show

different times mark, regarding fenech.

different story, different backers etc.

fenech and tszyu filled clubs that i attended at least to capacity when they were in prime.

the interest has been battered thanks partly to mundine and green dramas imo. dunny bill nonsense is hurting too.

the fenech and tszyu times were full of positive stories and achievements. the last 5 years has been drama followed by dribble, followed by nonsense imo.

the achievements of geale etc. lately r not seen as 'SPECIAL' like they were in the fenech days.

More people overseas would have seen the fight but for a SNAFU by the American broadcaster.

I work within the Telecommunications industry and can honestly say that i communicate with a lot of people and have to say that the noise for both fighters is growing.

Mark people follow heart here in Australia, you either have a big heart or a big punch and that helps you become a house hold name

If Mundine wanted to help boxing here, he would do the right thing and fight Geale again for a real title and right his wrong! If he wins it would be massive, if he loses he pass's the torch.

There were 3500 people at the fights, 1500 less for the previous Geale promotion.

No more big fights for Hobart. Geale will fight overseas now.

I reckon the next fight for Geale could be against Sam Soliman in Melbourne

I hope your wrong. I don't really want to see that fight. It's time for Geale to take on the world.
Word is Pirog and the Geale camp are very close to a deal with HBO for a date in August. Watch this space!

Oddly enough Boxrec ranks Soliman higher than Pirog! Is this the first time a sometime WBF (Foundation) champion has been ranked higher than a WBO champion?

Pirog has a defence due against an unknown challenger on May 1.

I noticed that too Brute.
I suppose I should clarify my comments.

Geale vs Soliman would probably do OK in Australia, but on an international stage it just looks like another Australian champion choosing to stay at home and box the locals.

Geale vs Pirog on the other hand, would be better recieved world wide, and in the event of a win for Geale, lift his profile that little bit more to set up showdowns with the likes of Martinez, Chavez Jnr, Sturm and Lee.

I just want to see Australia with a solid champion, that fights anyone, any where, and who will represent our country and its people well. I think Geale is just the man for the job. For too long we have had 'world champions' that have promised the world, and delivered.... well circuses. Only my opinion of course

I think Geale should and will fight overseas next time out. I was just surprised on how Sam has kicked on.

I don't know some of Fenechs fight were mutton dressed as lamb. I think the difference is Bill Mordey used to get positive stuff written in the media

yes but the public didn't cop the drama after drama around mundine, green, hall on and off thing, and now dunny bill. they have made boxing look a mockery to the general public now.

so now geale and dib have won, the achievement is seen as blase to the public.

Which is sad because Geale and Dib are true champions.
