Ken Buchanan docu premiere

A film has been made of the great Ken Buchanan, its called The Boxer From Somewhere Else. and premieres at Traverse Theatre, Cambridge Street, Edinburgh tomorrow night 27th.

the film is so called because Ken never fought in his hometown of Edinburgh as a pro, and he only had 4 fights in Scotland in his whole career. The fim is made by young Edinburgh filmmaker Jamie Steedman, he approached Buchanan after reading a book on his life story, Ken agreed and the film is clips and interviews , Ken hopes that young boxers will watch it and learn the good and bad of dealing with professional life.

Ive never understood how Ken was so underrated and under appreciated in Scotland, when you compare the treatment he got with the rabit following that Jim Watt gained it beggars belief really. (No offense to watt who was a fine champion himself and underrated internationally). I remember reading Kens biog (great read!) and it seemed that he never understood the reason for this neglect from Scotland either.
And when you see today an ordinary boxer like Ricky Burns being compared to the likes of Ken and lynch and Watt its all rather sad...

I think thats abit unfair, give Ricky a chance lol he's still got time to be a great....you never know. I just don't see how you can say he is ordinary?

Kenny never got the exposure he deserved on British shores; he was mostly tucked away on dinner shows, courtesy of his manager Eddie Thomas who was notoriosly independent, and struggled with two canny veterans at Wembley in his reign as world lightweight champion, which hardly helped.
For the most part, Thomas worked him abroad.
