Kenny Anderson v Wayne Reed

Post by xrgcx »

Confirmed for 14th April on Alex Arthur undercard. Feel for Anderson, going from boxing Groves for British title to boxing 8x3s against Reed.

It must be tempting for fighters in andersons position to say ''sod this whats the point'' and to just get a regular job (that probably pays more).
Fair play to him for just getting on with it but it must be demoralising for him.

Has Anderson been hard done by in his career?

One guy pulls out of a fight against him and you think he might be tempted to quit. It seems like an overreaction.

I'd feel hard done by.

It's horrible training hard for a decent payday and opportunity only for it to be scrapped at the final stage.

It happens in boxing, surely a fighter shouldn't be thinking of quitting just because they miss out on one opportunity.

You're putting words in the OP's mouth - he talks about fighters in Anderson's position, not about the Groves fight specifically. In terms of context, Anderson turned pro five years ago with plenty of promise yet what's happened in his career in terms of how he's been matched and how he's been paid makes it perfectly valid to question whether the sacrifices of training camp, diet etc are worth it if the return is so pitiful. It's not rocket science.

How many times has an opponent pulled out against Anderson and how long has he been trying to step up to this level?

I can't recall Anderson having a lot of tough breaks in his career, so to talk about this pull out as a real heartbreaker doesn't seem right to me.

Whatever he would have earned for Groves then he will now earn a lot less. Also if he had beaten Groves his earning potential would have risen dramatically whereas it won't go up much after his next fight.

Think about it. He trains for ten weeks down in Lancashire, he is hitting his weight throughout and gnarly as eff because of this, he has sold a load of tickets to notoriously tight fisted Scots and convinced them to leave the promised land, he hasn't had a sniff of a major title since his last meeting with Groves and he really, really wants to avenge his only defeat. The fight gets pulled, all is in vain and his first reaction wasn't, 'That is a nice outcome for me'.

If you don't understand why the pull out is a heartbreaker then you need to think about the following a) the thrill of fighting for titles b) the struggles of maintaining and making weight c) the importance of avenging a loss and then process the whole lot through that abacus of yours.
KG, there's no point trying to rationalise with him as you and I both know he's just being deliberately provocative again. I watched with amusement as you and others 'owned' him after he tried the same trick on the 'Other Sports' forum this week but he clearly hasn't learnt anything.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt here and replied normally, but I should have known better.

As you know Kenny is one of my best pals so excuse the bias.

He absolutely does not feel sorry for himself, he's a top grafter and will prove himself as the top Super Middle in the country and one of the best in the world when the time comes.

Kenny has being let down twice in final eliminators that he trained (6 and 7 week camps) for Vs Paul David, and now Groves. He has also being let down by empty promises and promoters not doing what they say they are going to do for him.

8-10 weeks away from your family, staying in a hotel and taking yourself to the very brink of exhaustion on a daily basis plus sparring and making weight etc etc... Its a tough job, but credit to Kenny he just took the set back in his stride and we were back training mon and tuesday as normal.

Its a tough sport but he's not in it for anything but to call himself a champion and believe me he will do it. I've trained with loads of people over the years and his work ethic is absolutely freakish and inspirational. Hope he gets the breaks his hard graft deserves- but if he has to Marvin Hagler his way to the top he will do.

I am not saying it won't be tough, but Anderson hasn't had to deal with having many things like this happen to him before. Pull outs happen in boxing and Anderson hasn't had it any tougher than most fighters.

You consider that an owning? They just overwhelmed me with silly horse puns and insults.

I fail to see what I written here that is so provocative. I think that maybe you are a little too sensitive.

Afew guys have pulled out against Kenny in his career (Paul David twice i think),good on him for taking this fight it at least keeps his active and ready for the fight with G.G.

I forgot about David pulling out twice.

So, Anderson has had to deal with more pull outs than the average fighter.

You write that after Billy Nelson has given that information.

Why didn't you mention the other pull outs? Did you forget about them as well?

You couldn't be arsed to mention it, but you could be arsed to post a relatively longwinded post just to say that having an opponent pull out of a fight is not pleasant.

Why didn't you add at the end that it has happened to Anderson in the past? If you knew, it isn't much more effort to type that on the end of your first post.

King Geedorah wrote:Because I assume knowledge to an extent given that we're on a boxing forum and you assume that anyone who takes the time to post in a thread at least knows what they're talking about. Just I premuse you expect people to think before they post in your P4P threads, which I assumed have been sents to the knacker's yard.
That would be a silly assumption to make. I am not sure that it is really possible for someone to make that assumption, considering the number of times on this forum when it has been made clear that somepne didn't know something.

This in turn led to me making a counter post in an attempt to a) further illustrate that you don't actually follow the sport and just play 'Mother May I' in an attempt to amuse yourself b) drag you into a cyclical debate that would b1) create an iteration of the one thing we've learned, that you don't follow boxing or understand its demands b2) allow me to make the same post a number of times safe in the knowledge that your reply will be either a 'Who, what, me?' version of 'I didn't know his circumstances when I first posted and am still not willing to learn despite trying to troll people by challenging their understanding on other threads' or a gnarly reply that is a basic spin on b2c) which states 'This is why I have a long face' and answers that burning question 'Is your usename directly related to your love of Edward Furlong films or was it a happy coincidence.
I do follow the sport, I simply forgot about Paul David pulling out twice.

I clearly follow boxing, I watch it every bloody week. Are you trying to suggest that I am pretending to watch all of these boxing matches?
