Box.nation sign deal with Golden Boy

Post by dve3333 »

Box.nation just tweeted this:
"Thanks to a new deal with Golden Boy Promotions, as of April 21st, Box.Nation will have 2 GBP shows LIVE each month!"

At least they are planning to increase their coverage, I've been a subscriber since the start and apart from the occasional lack of action some weekends I've been happy enough with their output so far.

I thought Sky announced an exclusive deal with Golden Boy about a month ago?

TV's New Home of Boxing in the UK, Channel 456 on Sky and 546 on Virgin, will show two LIVE GBP shows per month that will include one of their major HBO or Showtime TV events and one show from their hit Solo Boxeo series.

The only thing allegedly has done well is picking up international cards. They haven't got all the good ones but they should drop the crap Warren shows and stick to picking up the foreign stuff. Sure show some British stuff but base the scheduling around the international cards.

Yes international shows are good. But will this channel ever get enough people to subcribe is another matter. Boxing ratings on sky are generally poor execpt for the big fights. THis channel will be lucky to get 50% of sky average audience of around 100k

Great news, the more international fights the better but I still really enjoy the domestic cards too. So keep it up

On the subject of BN, I noticed they are showing James DeGales next fight in co-promotion with Sauerland.

The domestic cards have been crap this year. Burns v Moses was the best.

Very happy with 456 so far. Plenty of scope for improvement but they are building nicely. They pick up so many good international fights that Sky would and do ignore

The international fights are the only good thing about the channel. The main thing that pisses me of being a subcriber is they show the fights for free a few days later on freeview. This needs to stop.

Yeah what is all that about? Does this mean Sky only had a deal with Golden Boy for the next few fights and have now been pipped to the post by allegedly for all future fights after those?

Who knows. Sky never answer any questions.
I read boxing was one of the lowest watched sports on sky. Which is not good news for sky boxing or allegedly. As dread to think the figures on a stand alone boxing channel.

And its little wonder why. Their Ringside programme is a joke, Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson acting buddy buddy talking a lot but saying nothing of substance at all. Wheeling out Khan, Froch and whoever Eddie Hearns flavour of the month is week after week. There is no promotion outside of the big names whatsoever which is why their domestic fights do such poor numbers.

It seems Sky are putting all their eggs in the basket of the new Golden Goose himself Eddie Hearn, with a far larger emphasis on his stable. Brook v Hatton was built up well with the War of the Roses tag-line gave it plenty of coverage on their Sports News channel in the build up and i hear it got the largest viewing boxing figures in years and all because they attracted the non boxing anoraks such as ourselves!!

Since Box.nation came on the scene Sky have tried to increase coverage while calling themselves "The Home of Boxing" but they seem to be just buying fights purely for the rights. A prime example of this was last weekend with Buckland, Morales etc. No mention of any of the fights outside of a 5 minute spot on Ringside and advertisements but who is going to tune in when the general public simply don't know and aren't told who these guys are.

Very true they dont promote non big shows enough. Probably due to the lack of viewers boxing gets.
But Boxing promotors have to take the blame for some of the poor shows that have been shown over the years. For years sky allowed crap. Some of those years a certain promotor was a boxing consultant for them being paid nearly a million. I can see difficult times ahead unless things change.

Hennessy is the only promotor getting an audience but how long will 5 stay with it.

The international cards seem to be improving for 456, so that's a big plus to the subscribers.

Obviously you can appreciate the criticism for the home-grown shows being a watery to say the least lately.

But overall good news.

Ringside is the boxing equivalent of Match of the Day - it's not meant for the hardcore boxing freaks, just the general public

How any one can have any complaints with a station in such an infancy is beyond me.

We are all intelligent people, and as such should understand that there will be teething problems. But overall, the content has been great, some good fights, and they are picking up a decent amount of foreign cards, and the deal with golden boy is only a good thing.

For me also, enzo and paul smith have been revelations in the co commentary spots. Knowledgable and suprisingly good

Boxeo schedule for next couple of weeks, they seem to have good balanced main events. Not the biggest names, but always good to see new boxers on our screens.
