whatever mitchell is being offered he should take i think he beats burns in a close fight then in the rematch he can decide what he should be offered it should be about winning the world title not just the money.

Because Mitchell isn't exactly the same doesn’t make him a bad person. No he doesn't deserve silly money, but nor does he deserve an offer which isn't fair, and if he's prepared to stand his ground for that then it would be admirable to some.

Best known for Katsidis loss? Perhaps, but does it matter?

I often use my brother as an example of Joe Public. He is a football man mainly, loves a lot of other sports too. He watches the really big fights, and goes to about one big show a year. He knows of Kevin Mitchell, he remembers that he has a less talented brother and that they were marketed as the ‘Mitchell brothers’, he knows Mitchell is a little controversial out of the ring of late, he says Mitchell seems to have been around for ages.

He knows Ricky Burn because he was at a Celtic match when Burns was paraded around the pitch. He was surprised to hear that Ricky has one of the big four belts. Even now, he was surprised to hear that! He can’t remember having seen him fight.

We can twist these things back and forth all day, but lets not. Let’s hope Ricky gets a fair offer, Mitchell gets a fair (but lower) offer, and that they fight and it is a good as Mitchell-Murray’s was.
Well we will see mate
Noticed you were in Rees corner Billy any chance of him and Ricky if the Mitchell fight falls through?
I dont think so mate, gary and gavin are pals and asked me to help in the corner in Paris i had no hesitation in saying yes.
Gavin has been offered a shot at Ricky but his promoters couldnt agree terms i beleive.

mitchell doesn't want a shot at a world title, in the UK then?

he did this vs murray, playing hard to get, and i think he's just trying to hold out for the biggest payday as he's the bigger ticket seller.

reckon it's a fight both men could do with.

Would be a great fight. I rate Mitchell think he could be world class. He fought an idiots fight against Kastidas.

Simba i hope your right, we will know soon enough. Would be very dassapointing to see Mitchell price himself out of it, but believe it or not this happens very often in boxing...

call his flipping bluff.

what else is he going to do? he was in too much trouble to go and fight brandon rios in the states, and he's going to price himself out of a ricky burns title shot? is there really anything bigger beckoning for mitchell - more undercard fights like the last one, perhaps...

anyone think mitchell has any interest in the other champs, i.e. the difficult and little known miguel vazquez...hopefully the twatting about stops soon and we get the domestic/world title fight we're hoping for.

billy nelson wrote:I can assure you what Kevins wanting to challenge for a world title is massive in comparison to what Ricky got to challenge for it (SFW),now i cant see any diffrence here, kevin hasnt done anything in his carrer to date to justify demanding silly money has he? In fact hes best know for his loss to Katsitas and a win against John Murray whos proven not to be world class (but a very exciting fighter)
Mitchell is also best known (if not more so) to have beat Carl Johanneson by TKO who actually beat Burn's. Mitchell is not at all best known for his loss to Katsides. I recall that he was well known before that, mainly of date due to beating Prescott who KO'd Amir Khan.

Get real mate look at Ricky Burns now compared to when he fought CJ, Prescott lets not forget was brought over as an opponent for Amir and Kevin got took the distance, granted he boxed well v a big puncher.
The only comparison is Katsitas Ricky beat him well, Kevin got stopped.
And of coarse there sparring session which im sure Kevin is still trying to get out his mind, although it will resurface nearer and nearer there fight

the more i think about this fight the more im sure mitchell will win burns doesnt have the power to keep mitchell off and think mitchell definatly has the power to hurt burns later on, granted burns has come on leaps and bounds with good wins over martinez and katsidis but if mitchell wasnt so badly distracted with his personal problems i guarentee he would of beaten katsidis.

You seem bitter? Anyway, I could say look at Kevin now (v Murray) compared to when he boxed Katsides. And in reply to your Mitchell was taken the distance by Prescott?...So, and what? Yes he boxed master class that night, even you'd have to admit that. As you know, boxing is not all about inside the distance wins and how can we compare fights/fighters at different stages of their career's? And when you say "The only comparison is Katsitas Ricky beat him well, Kevin got stopped" I could say that CJ clearly beat Ricky Burns by a wide un decision yet Mitchell KO'd CJ. The point I'm making to you is that Mitchell isn't pricing himself out (if he is) because he doesn't want the fight, like I said, he'd be trying to make the most money for both. And you should know that sparring is different to a real contest, a bit different wearing 8oz gloves to 160z with head guard. Anyway, I think your referring to the first spar when Burns was clearly fit yet Mitchell wasn't fit at all, was a different story the second time they sparred I heard. You seem to be wanting to cause a grudge between these two boxers.

Oh no he wouldnt have,if you cant hit it you cant hurt it! diffrence being Ricky will keep hitting Kevin with fast crisp hurting shots and break him down just like before :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes:

Your right with 8oz on kevin may have got KO'd instead of his coach stopping the spar never thought of that ha ha. they only sparred twice mate and im telling you Ricky dominated both spars,we were invited down by Team Mitchell so surely its his responsibility to be fit not ours,my man will always be fit 6-7 weeks from fighting, ultimately thats prob the diffrence between the two? :TU:

Michael Katsidis is no longer a reliable yardstick to compare both fighters. The Manuel Marquez and Guerrero fights look to have taken the edge off Katsidis.

Well Billy, your right Ricky is very fit and I heard thats why Mitchell was going to 'use' (excuse the term) Ricky Burns for the beginning of Mitchell's training and first lot of sparring to start off and to get fit as Ricky is also quite sharp aswell as fit a decent puncher but not the biggest of punchers. Ideal for someone like Kevin to sharpen up on a stage where his timing is not there and wouldn't be a big issue getting caught a few times. Think you should be humble about this as you seem to be rubbishing Mitchell off but at the same time putting a lot of pressure on your own fighter. Remember some going on like this about Murray v Mitchell (although respectfully neither coaches of the two never) and look what happened....

I was always a big fan of Mitchell (still am a bit) and i was one of those who didn't give Ricky a chance against Martinez and then fancied Katsidis to get the nod but I've really been won over by him. He knows his strengths, is dedicated plus he is prepared to listen and stick to a gameplan. Mitchell seems to be the opposite and for that reason, i would always fancy Burns on the night. Mitchell, if he turns up ready is going to make this a cracker but if i was to bet now, my money would be on Burns.

Yes, he would, he'd blitz him all over again, you'd be nuts (or blind) to think otherwise. Mitchell could'nt take his power, that was very evident, the result would be exactly the same, if not a quicker stoppage this time around.

How do you work that out with Katsidis on the decline and certainly less of a fighter now than when he boxed Mitchell in May'10 yet Mitchell is arguably coming off a career best performance against John Murray and a better fighter now physically and mentally? Even your biased mind must see the difference between Mitchell v Katsidis and Mitchell v Murray? The result certainly wouldn't be the same, and I'm not nuts or blind. I would say Burns v Murray would be more of a 50/50 fight. The Mitchell who boxed Johannson, Prescott and Murray will beat Burns, the Mitchell who boxed Katsidis wouldn't beat Burns. Both at their best Mitchell wins. Burns hasn't the power worry Mitchell.

Complacency is a state of mind that exists only in retrospective: it has to be shattered before being ascertained.

Be careful Billy, Mitchell is a lot better than it sounds like you think he is.
