Where does Khan go if he loses ?

I haven't seen a great deal of talk about this possible outcome.

Amir Khan has said that the rematch "shall be an easy fight" - despite losing the first. Also he is going to be training and sparring a southpaw in Manny Pacquiao for several weeks in the Philippines, which is stylistically all wrong for Peterson.

I cant see how their styles / stance match up at all. He might get soundly thrashed for a few weeks in sparring and then faces an arduous trip back to the States to ready himself - which won't benefit him physically or mentally.

I think he'd have been better fobbing off Roach and sticking in Bolton with Joe Gallagher. He trained and recently faced pressure fighters like Murray and Rios etc in recent times.

He should also junk that huge bunch of cling on's that trail him everywhere. He should go solo with a trainer and get his head down because if he slips up the big Stateside opportunities will fast dry up or he will be on a merry go round of vacant titles with the likes of Zab Judah and Marcos Maidana.

If he comes home it's Kell Brook or the highway. There's nothing else.

Certainly much better than mixing with the domestic class at home.
Khan is a popular fighter and a name in America now, he still has plenty of scope left there now whatever happens in the fight.

But in answer to the OP's question, yes i think a 'homecoming' to Brook would be his best angle to build again, the UK Boxing scene i'm sure would like to see that fight happen.

Certainly up to Welter for more big fights, but it won't happen, because Amir will stop him, like he should have done in the first few rounds last time.

When announced at the MSG theatre before Martinez v Macklin he got on the whole a good welcome. Were a fair few boo's but the majority stood up and applauded him. Have no idea if thats a one off or a fair indication of how he is received over there.

He's only 25 if he loses it's not the end of the world. He would no doubt get a crack at Garcia or step up to Welter maybe try for a fight with Berto or ortiz. I cant see him going for the Brook fight.

If Khan does lose, he should forget moving up to Welterweight, because there's better opposition than Peterson up there (and hasn't Peterson himself said that he intends to move up in weight).

That said, even if Khan loses this fight horrifically - he'll still probably get another World Title down at Light Welter.

i thought khan and pacquiao stopped sparring now in training camps?. i wouldnt say its the end of the road for khan if he loses which i dont think he will, theres plenty of fights he could get in either 140 or 147, garcia at 140 and brook at 147 being the obvious ones, for the rematch i dont think peterson can fight much better then in the first wheres as if khan sticks to his game plan and not try and slug it out and try prove hes got a chin which he keeps doing in more of his recent fights then he should claim a comfortable ud or even a stoppage.

why is it that khan is expected to improve but not peterson? plenty of guys who won titles of all descriptions have gone on to improve. maybe peterson will be the the one to go to bigger and better things now that he has the confidence from the belt around his waist. he came up the hard way and has shown determination and focus to get where he is today. he might not be planning on giving that up. khan on the other hand has had it far too easy this past six years, has demonstrated his lack of focus on many occasions, and is a bit of a mental midget. im going for a peterson win again....aand khan will go on to a career along the lines of judah....good world class fighter but just not great

Khan fought in Peterson's hometown he got cheated in the rematch I think khan will come out aggressive and dominate Peterson to win his belts back. If he loses he's going to have to work his way back up. If he wins I think he should fight Robert guerrero,Devon Alexander,Timothy Bradley, or the winner of berto vs Ortiz

It's obvious to me that Roach is using Khan for Pacquiao's prep, rather than vice versa.

If Pac loses to Bradley , Roach's biggest payday goes up in smoke. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure whose his priority.

Peterson is different in every department to Pacquiao.

I dont think Amir Khan thinks its an "easy fight" per say. Nearly every boxer wants to in confident and make out their the better boxer. Face it, Khan isnt there for a pay cheque.

That said, I think Peterson may take it in a similar bout to the first.

Khan is enough of a big name to come back again a few times - especially if it goes the distance. He's known beyond boxing which helps. Frank Bruno lost to every half-decent in-shape boxer he met but was always a big name who people would watch. It's all about spinning the 'comeback'.

Purses will go down, but one good win would put Khan back in the headlines. Close weight divisions also make it easier to reinvent yourself. It's easy to say 'I was weight drained, and I'm making a comeback at a new weight'.

I think Khan has to box clever. He got dragged into the trenches last time. On fight night Peterson was a full six pounds heavier than Khan and I think he looked the bigger man too and made his strength count. Plus he's fundamentally sound.

No doubt Khan can win but it's still a really tough fight and Peterson is going to be really up for it as his great effort in the first fight has been shadowed by the goings on since. He fought brilliantly.
