Yeah I was suprised Stoute lost, I guess Roman made it a dogfight...Stoute is a good pure boxer so I doubt he lost a "boxing" match, Roman probably roughed him up but we'll see what happened soon enough...Gln101 wrote:NYAmateur90 wrote: Brian went back to the drawing board and made sure he didnt make the same mistakes he did in the metros... Ive wondered this for a while but never bothered to ask...
Can someone explain the final score system in amateur boxing? Like how can someone win 5-0 or 4-1 if there are only 3 rounds and 3 judges?

123 Novice- Jonathan Jimenez
154 Women- Nafisha Umarov won via RSC-4
132 Novice- Chad Trabuscio
141 Novice- Michael Hughes
178 Open- Anthony Pegues beat Luis Rivera
132 Women- Storm Chandler over Bertha Aracil...good scrap
152 Open- Patrick Day beat Christopher Galeano
Honestly I thought Galeano won tonight...he clearly won the 1st and the other 2 rounds were close...but I thought Galeano was being the aggressor in my mind but I guess it was close...Chris looked very sharp, Day came to fight but I thought Chris was getting the better of exchanges...its tough to get through Chris's defense...
Joseph Williams beat Max Tassy...Tassy was holding ridiculously...entertaining at times though...both guys had a huge crowd for support...I thought Williams cud have won easy by just boxing but he was pushing real hard for a KO and trying to please the crowd showboating and clowning but he was too quick for Tassy who spent most of the first 2 rounds holding and with his back on the ropes...

Yeah I'm cool with Pat personally but I thought Chris won although it was a close fight, but 5-0 was ridiculous, neither Chris or Pat won that clear...178 Open was boring as hell...did Plevako win? I left after 201 Open...Gln101 wrote:They gave day the 5-0 decision bullshit ! It cud have gone either way

Re: 2012 NY Daily News Golden Gloves (85th Ann.)
With clicker scoring, each judge has two clickers, one for the red and one for the blue. Each time they see a punch land that fits the scoring criteria, they press the clicker counter. At the end of each round they write down the scores from the clicker counters and then reset them to zero for the next round. At the end of the bout, three rounds (men) or 4 rounds (open women) they add up the scores which determines the winner on their scorecard. If it is a tie, then they have to use the tie-breakers to determine the winner. Since there are 5 judges, the final scores indicate how many judges had each boxer winning. 5-0, 4-1 or 3-2. Now you can have a very close 5-0 where every judge had one boxer winning by just 1 point and you can have a 4-1 split that isn't very close where 4 judges saw one boxer dominating and the other judge gave it to the other boxer.lowkee wrote:Ive wondered this for a while but never bothered to ask...
Can someone explain the final score system in amateur boxing? Like how can someone win 5-0 or 4-1 if there are only 3 rounds and 3 judges?
From the rulebook - scoring criteria:
"Scoring blows. During each round, a judge shall assess the
respective scores of each boxer according to the number of blows
obtained by each. In order to have scoring value, each blow must
have the force of the body behind it, and without being blocked or
guarded, land directly with the knuckle part of the closed glove of
either hand on any part of the front or sides of the head or body
above the belt. Blows landing as described above are scoring
blows. Any blow landing as a result of a foul will not count as a
scoring blow. The value of blows scored in a rally of infighting
shall be assessed at the end of such rally and shall be credited to
the boxer who has had the better of the exchanges according to the
degree of said boxer’s superiority."
"Non-scoring blows. Non-scoring blows are blows which are struck
by a boxer:
1. while infringing any of the rules;
2. with the side, heel, or inside of the glove or with the open
glove or any part other than the knuckle part of the closed
glove;
3. which lands on the arms;
4. which merely connect, without the weight of the body or
shoulder."
From the rulebook - tiebreakers
"If, at the end of a bout, having marked each round, the judge finds
that the boxers are equal in scoring blows after totaling the
scorecard, the judge is required to select a winner. The judge must
record the criteria for the selection of the winner in the remarks
column next to the scorecard total of the winner. The criteria for
selecting a winner is as follows:
1. Who has done most of the leading off or was the effective
aggressor? If equal, in that respect:
2. Who has shown the better defense (blocking, parrying,
ducking, side-stepping, etc.) by which the opponent’s attacks
have been made to miss? If still equal:
3. Who boxed cleaner and had the better style?
4. A winner must be nominated in all USA Boxing competitions
(in AIBA dual matches, a draw decision may be awarded)."
Finally, scoring a knockdown or 8-count does not give the boxer any additional points. Only the scoring blow(s) that land. It is possible to score a knockdown and not get any points if the judges could not see a scoring blow land or is a foul was committed.

Smh I'm upset because I wanted to enter the gloves next year thinking I would make it to the garden .now all that plans Is crushed :-( . I'm going to do a little search on the place hopefully it's a big arena r if it's a least a good place but dam the garden was traditional it means alot to fighters to fight in madison square garden
Re: 2012 NY Daily News Golden Gloves (85th Ann.)
Im sure the new place will be very nice. But were talking about the garden it must be like a dream to fight there knowing alot of past champions have also to fight in front of thousands. I hope they change it back.
