Larry Holmes vs Jack Johnson. What If?

Post by KOJOE90 »

Two great Heavyweights from different era's. Could Johnson cope with the Holmes Jab? Or would the defensive abilitys of Johnson confuse and fustrate Holmes?

Who wins fight fans? :box:

I think this fight is very winnable for Holmes. Johnson edges him using his speed in a very close, razor thin decision in my opinion. Holmes' ability is often forgotten due to coming after Ali and before Tyson but he was talented and really never beaten clear cut without controversy in his prime. Of all the top guys, I think Holmes could give Johnson the best run of it.

I'm really surprised that "sweetscientist" hasn't posted his opinion on this. According to him, Larry Holmes could beat anyone past or present.

I definitely like Holmes by a decision.

I have to go for Johnson. He was never going to give anyone an easy fight and I think he'd be best able of any HW at catching Larry's jab in his palm, and once he'd taken that away from Holmes then the fight would seriously move in Jack's favour.

I think larry would slowly lose more rounds than he wins but they'd be so close it would be a controversial decision either way. I see Larry rallying late on but Johnson being too clever and keeping out of harm's way.

I definitely think Holmes could beat most of the fighters that ever fought (prime vs. prime) he definitely is in my top 5 but I think the reason people don't consider him to be in the same class that Ali was in is because he was a dick and said the wrong things at the wrong time.

holmes would jab and move while johnson is busy parrying, blocking and trying to counter. holmes on points in maybe most boring fight of century, right behind byrd vs. ruiz
