Ali at Miami Marlins Game Last Night

Post by jrc26 »

It isn't surprising how bad he looks, but it never fails to make me cringe. I wonder how much longer The Greatest can hold on.

Hes really become just a marketing tool, hasnt he.

Almost as disturbing as his (appalling) state is how hes used here.

Maybe Ali wants to go out? I don't believe Lonnie would take him out if he didn't want to or she didn't know whether he wanted to. Ali always loved the crowd and being out & about, I'm sure with his personality he would hate to be cooped up indoors like, say, Jimmy Ellis seems to be.

Just conjecture, but again I don't see why Lonnie would use him.

Agreed...old and infirm or not, I think he still calls the shots as to the "where, when, who" of his life.

Its pretty nauseating the way people go about pretending Ali's just superficially damaged. "Grip like a bear," etc are so condescending, and so obviously manufactured statements, it just reeks of bullsh!t. It does Ali no favours...though as I say, hes just a gimmick to a lot of people in the marketing dept.

G.I. though you may be correct, I can tell you, from my position as a director of a Human Service agency, I oversee supports to a wide variety of folks with disabilities and aging issues.

I solemnly promise you that what you see....is NOT always what you get.

Norton described him "like hitting steel". His devolution may not be what it appears. Purely because of where he once was.

Ali is a very sick and frail man, Buzz.

That old chestnut about his bottle being damaged but his contents remaining undiluted ceased applying some time ago.

Well age will make a difference for all of us eventually and he's messed up from parkinson's. Which by the way more often scrambles the "output" more than the "input" sometimes akin to Cerebral Palsy. But some of his musculature might be surprising even now. I have learned this by being close to the front lines on this issue.

A friend of mine who saw Joe Frazier just weeks before his demise described him as being a rock solid chunk of muscle. Though he may not have looked it to the casual observer.

I think the Ali's a more than sorted for money. He does not live in poverty at all. They sold the Ali likeness for hundreds of millions.

Ali feeds off crowds.

If they didn't think he was somehow "good" for the event, (and that almost always distills down to the bottom line) he would not have been invited/included. And yeah the money was about the "general fund" of that event. I gotcha on that G.I. Even if he did get paid, it would likely have been nominal. Most likely $0.
