The Best DeMarco: Tony or Paddy?
Who was the best of the DeMarcos in your view? Tony or Paddy? Both to me have hall of fame credentials, but, I cannot understand why are not they in the hall?

I saw them both in their prime. paddy was a very underrated fighter whos only drawback was he had no power, he was a very rough fighter who liked to use his head a lot hence the nickname the brooklyn billy goat. tony was a good puncher who could not take a punch very well as basilio and akins kod him twice each. overall i would take paddy as the better fighter but everybody has their own opinion. as far as the hof if norris or palamino are in the demarcos should be and they would have beaten them easily.

Hya Scotto, I too saw Paddy DeMarco lose a decision to Willie Pep at MSG. I also saw Paddy in the Golden Gloves ...Though i never saw Tony DeMarco fight ringside, I think that the MUCH HARDER punching Tony would stop Paddy DeMarco, as Paddy could not punch a lick and had nothing to hurt Tony DeMarco...scotto wrote:I saw them both in their prime. paddy was a very underrated fighter whos only drawback was he had no power, he was a very rough fighter who liked to use his head a lot hence the nickname the brooklyn billy goat. tony was a good puncher who could not take a punch very well as basilio and akins kod him twice each. overall i would take paddy as the better fighter but everybody has their own opinion. as far as the hof if norris or palamino are in the demarcos should be and they would have beaten them easily.

..it was fun to watch paddy...always charging, throwing lots of punches and,as noted, butting and tossing in a few elbows.
it's worth mentioning here that paddy won the lightweight title...from jimmy carter...and in that fight carter's handcuffs could be heard rattling even over television. it always embarrassed the tv announcers when you could hear some voices in the audience yelling to jimmy to take off the cuffs.
even so jimmy still actually won the fight but lost the decision. in the rematch jimmy scored a kayo and won his title back, as advertised.

Just a little in-joke doing the rounds, Jaclem.
Something about an elusive top-100.

Well? Just post your top-100.
You cant make almost daily references to this list purely to besmirch men you dont like and not be called on it.

I'll go with the better banger. Tony for me.
(Besides, Tony has a street named after him in Boston's North End, so . . .)

I think people would stop making jokes if you posted it.

I don't know about that. My gut feeling is that this list would bring on a whole new set of jokes.Goodnight, Irene wrote:I think people would stop making jokes if you posted it.

Possibly, but saying that isnt going to improve the chances of a list being posted, is it?

He will never have the stones to post the phantom list, we both know that. I've asked nicely many, many times. They should change his user name to TheList. I'm more interested in him finishing his Not100 at this point. At least we have been privileged enough to catch about 1/5th of that.

I dunno Saad, he tires of the gags, and hes making increasingly bold promises --- from seeing the list, "some day," to, "you will see it, dont worry."SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Goodnight, Irene wrote:Possibly, but saying that isnt going to improvdm the chances of a list being posted, is it?D

Maybe hes just at the library right now.

Getting back to the original question on this thread, the two fighters did their best to resolve the issue in ten rounds before a national TV audience on October 10, 1953. Tony beat Paddy in a split decision (98-95, 97-96, 96-97).

I may have confused these men with someone else, but who was the one who made a comeback in his 50's?
