Post by saturday_kid »

Just wondered if anyone could help here.

I'm after a list of current Masters champions.

Is there a website about with a list etc?

Cheers

I was under the impression that a title was vacated as soon as it had been won as to free it up for another promotion to use. Does Bruce Baker post on here?

Edit****

Just been informed you have 30 days to defend it. Perhaps that's why its so hard to keep track of the champs.

I was always dead against fighting for a masters title, reason being I see journeymen fighting for the 'vacant masters title' week in week out. Then my new manager shed some light on it for me. He said right I ring up the man who runs the masters belts and put a challenge in for the lightweight British masters for instance and if the person who holds that belt doesn't defend it against you they have to vacate it, that's when they search for another opponent to fight for the vacant title. So in theory if you put a challenge in and they don't defend it, it's because of the meer fact they don't want to fight you IMO.

These are titles primarily used to stage title fights on smaller shows. allegedly has staged the Heavyweight International Masters title whn Larry Oluamiwo on the title,

The Audley Harrison v Ali Adams fight is for the same International Masters title that Larry held and Ali won in December.

We have used the title as a platform for Yassine El Maaachi when he beat Bertrand Aloa and the then European number 4 Jimmy Colas. This was because Yassine without a British passport could only fight for an Area title until we go IBF etc and no one wanted to box him so we used the Masters titles.

They do lack some credibility as people do not defend them generally and the quality of some of the contestants sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

Bruce Baker that runs these titles does a good job and he states these titles are for the smaller promoter to stage title fights and create more interest which they do.

The minimum a champion gets is £1800 and the challenger £1200 but we have never ever paid as little as that.

With the website out of date and the fact no one defends the titles it means they are held in little regard and it is something I have said to Bruce on several occasions.
