Featherweights: Henry Armstrong vs Alexis Arguello

Post by elmersalsa »

I like this fight. Both at 126lbs and at their respective primes. Is the great Henry Armstrong a perfect prey for the great Alexis Arguello. Armstrong is going forward without a backward step, the way Arguello likes it. Who wins?

Most would go with Armstrong, but I've always felt he matched up well with Arguello, at least from a stylistic stand-point. The thing is, Armstrong tended to go right through styles, and it may well just be a case of Arguello being overburdened with a workload he's never dealt with before. I'm thinking it's the latter, actually. A surefire bruiser for both men. 9-5-1 for Armstrong.

The 126 pound Henry Armstrong was a force of nature...I can't see any featherweight with the possible exception of the young Terry McGovern or Abe Attell coping with Henry Armstrong at 126 pounds...He wears down one of my alltime favorites Alexis Arguello,I believe...

Armstrong was beatable at featherweight; Baby Arizmendi beat him twice.
This would have been a great fight. A lot of action and very competitive. This is really a tossup.

This is also a toss up for me, Alp. This fight would be like Arguello vs Pryor fights, but this time with an Arguello at the peak of his powers and not at the time that he was ready to be taken when he tried for his fourth world crown.

The more I think about it, I am leaning towards Arguello by late KO between rounds 10 to 13th...It would be an entertaining scrap for sure. At least Aaron Pryor was using some boxing. But Henry won't be boxing in here. He would be throwing leather non stop all night, and those are the type of fighters Arguello likes: to come to him
