max baer killed frankie campbell and was partly responsible for death of ernie shaff
sugar ray robinson had a dream he would kill jimy doyle and he didnt want to fight him the next day, and robinsons managers brought in a priest to convince him to fight. robinson ended up killing jimmy doyle that night.
ezzard charles killed sam baroudi- a lot of people say ezzard lost his killer instinct after this one and became a cautious fighter, trying to inflict as little damage as possible.
emile griffith killed benny paret and referee ruby goldstein is still haunted with memories of stopping it to late and he never reffed again.

...sugar ramos killed (featherweight) davey moore in the ring (his head bounced badly against a ring rope when he was knocked down and many think the snap of his neck was the cause of the injury.)
georgie small killed lavern roach....middle weights. roach had been named rookie of the year by ring magazine, which got him rushed over his head into a fight with marcel cerdan who gave him a bad beating which may have played a part. that was the last time nat fleischer named a rookie of the year, because he said it made them pushed into tougher competition too soon....i think the award was changed to "fighter who showed the most progress". small had what amounted to a mental breakdown after this....he and roach were friends. he was also deeply upset when sugar ray robinson pulled out of a fight with him when he learned small had killed somebody.
jess willard killed somebody but i can't remember who.
...sadly, there are a lot more...but these are the ones that come first to mind.
can't recall the details...but i think a fighter named jackie darthard got killed in the ring....and sam baroudi himself.. may have killed somebody....maybe it was darthard.....memory too fuzzy.

Scotlands James Murry died after his British Bantamweight Title fight against Drew Docherty in 1995.
I watched the fight on TV and it was a grueling fight and James tried so hard to win the belt.
But he paid the ultimate price. I think I am right in saying James was buied in his Boxing shorts.

RIP Champ.

A bantamweight boxer named Walt Ingram died of sustained injuries in a bout against Jose Becerra. I'm thinking of another Mexican boxer who also caused his opponent to die of sustained injuries but I can't recall the name.. and another boxer who met a tragic end was Salvador Sanchez.. he died in a car crash.

If I recall correctly.. I remember reading about that somewhere.. Although boxing is the greatest sport ever.. it's one downside is the brutal and tragic deaths.. but then all sports have deaths.KOJOE90 wrote:Wasn't it later reveiled that the Late Ali had a very thin skull?D. boxers dying
Gabriel Ruelas gave Jimmy Garcia such a long, slow beating in '95, that Garcia died in the hospital after the fight was stopped in the 11th rd. A stoppage which should have been sooner in many eyes.
Gabe was never the same warrior he was after that.

Re: boxers dying
That's the boxer I was thinking of. There's another one too but I don't remember his name. There's even a Mexican song about him.wlvrne wrote:Gabriel Ruelas gave Jimmy Garcia such a long, slow beating in '95, that Garcia died in the hospital after the fight was stopped in the 11th rd. Bradley Stone lost his life two days after his British title fight with Richie Wenton in 1994

Johnny Owen lost his life a few days after losing his world title challenge to Lupe Pintor in 1980.

More recently then WBO Super Flyweight champion, Pedro Alcazar, passes away from a Brain injury (unrealised) two days after losing to Fenando Montiel back in 2002. Apparently, Alcazar was released from medical care and was enjoying the sights of Las Vagas the day after the fight (the day before he died).

Not in the "boxers who were mudered" link on this thread but I am sure former World champion Davey Moore was murdered or accidently killed.
Here is one of the strangest cases in recent times of murdered boxers... James Hughes.

..stujones.....yeah...i do recall something about the "other" davey jones (as differentiated from the feather champ).....can't think of the details but i do remember at the time finding it unusual that two boxers with the same name would come to such untimely deaths.
was james hughes nicknamed jesse james? Sounds familiar...if he's the same one i recall getting interested in him on the fights in which he was televised. exciting style, if i'm thinking of the right one.

re
That's him, Jesse James Hughes. He had a few very exciting fights on USA network, winning the USBA, or NABF title at welterweight, I think against Derrell Coley. I may be mistaken, but I was thinking that they found his body in a swamp in Louisiana.
If you mean the Light-Middleweight Moore who fought Duran he died in a bizzare car accident.stujones wrote:Not in the "boxers who were mudered" link on this thread but I am sure former World champion Davey Moore was murdered or accidently killed.
Going from memory here...
He was parked on his own drive, got out of his car, forgot to put the handbrake on, went to the back of his car for some reason (maintenance, get shopping out????) the car started to roll back and ran over and crushed Moore to death.
Very sad, he was only 28.
