yeah man, ill tell u why hes my favorite.

first i remember my dad telling stories of him and praising him alot. so when i got old enough and into boxing, i watched his fights, read his books many times, read articles, and watched specials on him like the one u did. my favorite type of fighters are the ones that are tough and are always in exciting fights, have a lot of heart, can hit hard, and have the mentalitry of a warroior. marciano possessed all of those qualities.
i rememver archie moore said in one of his books "no man past present or future in my IMO can slug it out with rocky marciano." thats a big compliment considering archie trained george foreman and loved foreman like a son.

like me, marciano was italian and just listening to his personality and attitude about life and sports, i felt like me and him were a lot alike.
and he did have probably the least boxing skills out of any champion, and was very crude, ackward and unbalanced at times but it worked to his advantage cause it made him hard to hit cleanly at times. but ill say this, he had god given strength like ive never seen for his size as well as as an overhand right which he discovered when he was a kid in a street fight against julie durham. he was getting beat up. then landed this overhand right and durham was out. his friends said "jeez rock whered u get a punch like that." other champs found they had a punch in similar situations like max baer and joe frazier.

i loved the way rocky always came at u and battered u down into submission and he trained so fanetically. he in fact trained for the first ezzard charles fight for 7 hard months. u think guys today could do that. rockys natural weight was over 200lb but he didnt lift weights cuase of his back and he didnt need any more bulk, and he would trim down to 185 and be rock hard. and since im a dedicated wrestler, i like to look up to rock as an inspiration and i try to train as hard as him and use his mentallity going into matches.

he had so much confidence and a warriors mentality. few champions had it, it was the type of confidence where they just knew they couldnt lose. muhammad ali, larry holmes, joe louis, marciano, they all had it. every time they went out he went out to win, no questions asked. in rocky's first fight he faced a more experienced guy and allie columbo said "rock this guys a former new england golden gloves champ, hes too experienced." rocky said "hes got to arms and legs right?? then im fighting him." after he knocked him out he said "dont ever tell how good a guy is again. i have to beat them all."
other ones was where a reporter asked him "u think u can beat joe louis"? rocky replied "yeah i think i can beat him." he walked away and told his friend "that was a strange questioned the reporter asked, if i didnt think i could beat him why the hell would i be fighting him for."

the best quoete was when he was in a plane and there was a storm, and it looked like they were gonna crash and sonny woke up his brother rocky and said "rocky the weathers bad i think were gonna crash." rocky said " thats all u woke me up for ?? if its ur time, then its ur time." and he went back to sleep.
there are only a handful guys in history that can weight 185lb and have the power and strength to beat the big guys. and rockys one of them.
my favorite attribute about rocky was also his toughness. toughest heavyweight i can think of. and u gotta love the tough guys. it makes me laugh watching genaro hernandez quit when undefeated after breaking his nose in the de la hoya fight. he quit. and then marciano gets his nose split open and it only makes him angrier and he knocks out charles in the next round. i love the fact that marciano never lost, cause everyone hates losing and everyone has an off night where they lose. and marciano had off nights but he still never lossed.

i like a lot of the great heavyweights, but marciano just connects with me more than the others. joe louis has a similar connection with me too. jaclem probably has the same feeling with ezzard. but i love other guys in their own way also, i love the way sonny liston was so intimidating, i love the way geroge foreman clubbed and destroyed his opponents in 2 rounds, i love the way joe frazier had so much heart and stamina and would wear u down then take u out with the left hook, i love the way jack dempsey just came out with total aggresion and just put the hurt on u wantingf to kill u, i love the way larry holmes had such a good jab and has a lot of heart and i liked him as a person, i love the way alis so naturally talented, i love the way walcott did his shuffle and made u look like an amatuer boxing wise, i love the way tyson destroyed his opponents like no other man, i love everything about joe louis as a man and as a fighter, i love the way ezzard charles barely talked and no one got to really know who he is and he just did his talking in the ring, i love the way jack johnson toyed with opponents, i love the way max baer was a clown, etc

rory, i suggest reading rocky marciano "biography of a first son" by everett skenhan. u get too know him as a person as well as a fighter.

also the book Rocky Marciano "the rock of his times"- by russel sullivan. tells a lot about al weill anmd relationship with rocky as well as rocky fighting.

i watched a larry holmes beyon the glory it was great. "if u want to be technical rocky couldnt carry my jackstrap."

oh man great story... i admire the adoration you have for the man/ yeah i saw the ezzard fight it was amazing... showed some true heart there... he was such a great champion, and such a great guy.. after learning more about him, i see a real connection with him and braddock... they were both tough warriors who showed heart..and wer great people.... its nice to see people our age adore guys like rocky who was a class act, because now u have guys like pbf who disrespect everyone. rocky wouldnt bash any fighters, and even held back on ali, who talked and talk and talked during the computer fight taping... i see a large resemblence in our interest in boxers... for instence....
my favorite type of fighters are the ones that are tough and are always in exciting fights, have a lot of heart, can hit hard, and have the mentalitry of a warroior. marciano possessed all of those qualities.

wow that describes both braddock and marciano perfectly... marciano the better of the 2, but both had unbeleivable toughness and heart..
like me, marciano was italian
hell im irish.. braddock was too.
rockys natural weight was over 200lb but he didnt lift weights cuase of his back and he didnt need any more bulk, and he would trim down to 185 and be rock hard
braddock too was often fighting as the much lighter fighter..

well anyway i admire your adoration for this fighter, and i can see myself having a direct interest in rocky because he coincides with braddock so well.... i would suggest thinking about taking an interest in a fighter like braddock, not only cause hes my boy, but because hes a warrior and hero like marciano was... wow ill definatly find out about that book you suggested... i have some on braddock if ur interested yourself.

thanks for sharing your story of how you became interested in the blockton blockbuster.
