james toney
how is a boxer that is known for his defensive skills-slipping punches etc end up slurring so bad?? did he rely get hit that much???
Re: james toney
He took hard shots of the likes of Holyfield, Jirov etc but the main cause is probably hundreds or hard rounds of sparring in the gyms of Detriot and elsewhere.
He often used to talk about his tough attitude to sparring in interviews.

Re: james toney
Coupled with his lack of discipline between fights, his yo-yoing weight and what not can't have helped matters.

Re: james toney
I dread to think how many beatings it took to craft a defence like that.
Re: james toney
And he is naturally 11 odd stone fighting up at heavyweight.
He must have made some serious money, I wonder how he has spent it?

If that's the result of wot hard sparring does to you then that's the biggest argument iv seen that brutal sparring is pointless. U take Enuf risks in a fight ur being paid for wiv out gettin ur brain mashed for free. Gud point that jeff as to how many ud hav to take to get that gud at defense

Who next for him Tel?
Would love to see him over, nostalgia, Fury or Price.
Would be a must buy ticket just to say youd seen him live.

I know. But I gave up trying to solve the world and everyone in its problems a while ago.

Fair enough Dave.

Re: james toney
What was his condition like in the last fight?
I know he put the weight back on, just wondering if it's all flab or not.

Now now, don't be petulant. I'm just disgusted at the thought of Toney and Price.DavidPayne wrote:Fair enough Dave.

Didn't you see the horrible Lebedev bout?

I once heard he was suggested to BBBofC for Fury last year.

It was horrible, really could hardly watch and Lebedev is like treacle. For someone once so great to look like was sad.
I know what you mean about seeing him live but it would be like Ali Berbick.

Yes, sadly.

Better than what? Surely life isn't so boring and sad as to make you wish for a Chisora v Toney farce?

Re: james toney
There was def something amiss in the lebdelev fight... Toney seemed to forget the very basics of his own style. This guy was no jirov
Re: james toney
Has anyone ever lost a boat load of weight quickly (that they've been carrying for a while)?
If anyone has ever had a plaster cast of on limb you'll know about the feeling of lightness you get when the cast is taken off. I wonder if Toney's whole body felt like that![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Toney was shot to pieces, simply. He should be nowhere near world or even euro level boxers.

That old chestnut....
What's the attraction to watching someone with mental illness fight a man in the prime of his life?
Did you enjoy Ali v Holmes?
Re: james toney
Has Toney got a mental illness? He might be deluded but I wouldn't say he's got a mental illness.
