Why are boxing timer clocks so expensive?

Even digital ones? It's not a specialist bit of kit in terms of complexity... is it just because there is only a relatively small market for them? I'm not in the market for one, just that it's always struck me that they are expensive.

Your a clever one, thats for sure. A clock, with cogs that allow it to run once round in 4 minutes, and sound twice in that time, or the digital variant thereof, takes longer and costs more than an Iphone to make, does it? Other factors IMO are mattering more.

I've noticed this too. I've got old KO and ring mags where they are like $500. Endswells used to be mega dear too. I think its due to being specialist kit so they are trying to rob the customer. Absolutely no way these things cost much to manufacture. The timers are very rudimentary.

Buy an iPhone touch for £69 down load app for a quid hook it up to speakers and you have a timer with a built in mp3 player... The reason they are so expensive is because boxing fans are exploited from timers to tickets

I've got one on my phone, works for what I need it for, but it just struck me when I saw one advertised on here... silly money for what the actual device is. We have posters from most parts of the boxing world on here but I don't think we've got anyone on here who works for a supplier company, do we?

Maybe someone should start manufacturing cheap ones, dont advertise that idea on facebook though some fella called mark zuckerberg nicks alot of peoples ideas and gets rich from them i hear, there will be £10 ring clocks everywhere.

Another idea that I used to use.

If anyone still has an old CD-cassette recorder, you can record 3 mins of a music track, then record 1 min of nothing, and repeat like that, then play your new tape "album" in the gym.

Most Board of Control Timekeepers use ordinary stop watches nothing special, Seconda or something similar. Boxing time clocks that are used in gyms around the country might well be expensive but they are not used by most officials whilst they are working ringside. Some officials use digital some use just ordinary stop watches that anyone can buy at any jeweller's shop. They always have more than one clock working at the same time to act as a check watch for the other one (No excuses for the cockup the other week) Tag Heuer the worlds leader in makers of stop watches used to produce a stop watch especially for Boxing clearly marking out the 3 minutes and 1 minutes rest period but for some reason they have stopped making them, but I do know that they were expensive a lot more than a Seconda but there again they were quality stop watches,

If you have need to timer you can open the timer and record the time.Its very easy to use.
