First controversy you saw, how long did it take?

Sugar Ray caught Duran in an off night, friends. It was Duran's own fault that he did not trained himself properly like he did on the first fight in Montreal.DaveBoyMorrison wrote:elmersalsa wrote:Duran vs Leonard II... It was a bizarre ending. Whats your take on what happened that night, Elmer?
I also read a report about it leading up to the second fight. One poster, who is not here in this forum (elton john), brought it up. But I read the report for days, way before he brought it up.
No Mas, No Mas... A painful night for me and the great Roberto Duran's fans.

The first line reads like it was a barfight. You would never know it was a Boxing match, signed off on months prior and with millions of dollars and a World Title at stakeelmersalsa wrote:Sugar Ray caught Duran in an off night, friends. Elton John!? The guy whose life work it was to heap sh!t on Leonard? LOL. I loved EJ's humour, sure, but it was his one-man mission to destroy Leonard's reputation and popularity. I think someone even worked out EJ actually lived near Leonard, and posited the idea his grudge was owing to a dispute over a garden patch EJ wanted to install which Ray objected to, or a dispute during a neighbourhood Watch meeting
The reality is Duran should not have been paid for one of the most appalling acts of that era.

Hearns vs Leonard II.
I was so ickle (or, possibly, retarded) that when the American commentator mentioned Hearns had a glass jaw, I imagined some sort of ghastly crystalline mandible replacement surgery had taken place on the Hitman.

Probably a bit hard on boxing.
Follow any sport and there are controversies.

Yep, but most "games" aren't debated years later as to "who really won"......or are they?
Re: First controversy you saw, how long did it take?
Some have surmised that he avoided evacuating his bowels vs the "no mas" moment. If so, I'm just as happy not to have seen that lol. In fact he should have been paid a bonus for not exposing the public to such a display.Goodnight, Irene wrote:The first line reads like it was a barfight. Just the rules and what constitutes a win.BoxBuzz wrote:Yep, but most "games" aren't debated years later as to "who really won"......or are they?
In football the team who plays best doesn't always win. But die-hards will say well who scored the most goals? Plenty of poor decisions effect the matches though.
Thing is there's always another game to move on to. And teams play each other so often that there's always a chance at revenge. In boxing we're lucky if two of the best fight each other once.
Re: First controversy you saw, how long did it take?

I had actually 4got he fought Leongilgamesh wrote:My bad scallum, I should've known you were talking about Holmes-Michael Spinks, for some reason my head just jumped to Holmes vs Leon Spinks and I was thinking "What was supposed to be controversial about that one?"...now that I know you're talking about the Michael Spinks fight, I got ya.
