I accept that Norton kicked his ass thoroughly enough that Ali was in no doubt.

Either is anyone else who passes as a competent judge.

I think the judges and the Ref thought the amount was "sufficient". Who are you to question their authority? They are the boss of you.

It's your puzzle to resolve, as you attempt to ascertain their unique genius and remarkable insight into such matters. Once accomplished, then YOU can begin the ascent to such heights for yourself.

Let the record show, once AGAIN, my offer for Ali's worshippers to opine which rounds they thought Ali won against Young goes ignored

Pathetic. Buzz just stands by repeating his inanities until blue in the face.

Ali won. Ali won. Ali won!!!

Nonsense, I just looked at THE RING magazine from that month. It clearly says UNANIMOUS DECISION ALI.

I'm tellin' ya, you can't go around stickin yer neck out of the ring, and walk away a champion. You'll get points shaved everytime.

Young has no one to blame but himself.....unless all of those judges were bad eggs.

OK....so who owns it? Was it the three stooges? I believe that Moe, Larry AND Curley did a fine job that night.

Apparently you seem to take issue with them. What are you? A wise guy?

Buzz,

Which rounds did you think Ali won? Have you actually seen this bout? If so, when was the last viewing? How many poimts did you have Ali winning by?

As I recall.....you (or your sort) put up a hyperlink on that fight and asked everyone to have a look see when they could. I began the process, and saw that Jimmy was apparently trying to escape from the bad air in the ring. At some point I believe the kettle began to boil and I was called away. I'll surely return and attend to it at some point.

I think if Ali were following your defence of him here, he'd be every bit as embarrassed as he was against Young.

Norton matched up well with boxers such as Ali, Larry Holmes and Jimmy Young, but stopped in very short order when he faced the big punchers like George Foreman, Earnie Shavers and Gerry Cooney. As a result, I believe that Norton would have also been knocked out in short order by Joe Frazier and Ron Lyle.

Frazier, yes, and you're not likely to get much argument there. I would contend thats a class issue more than a power one, though. Frazier was just too good for Norton.

Lyle? Highly debatable fight, IMO. Either man may win it. My argument is, while Norton clearly preferred boxers, the evidence actually in-ring against him on the charge he could never handle a puncher is more circumstancial than convincing, IMO.

Foreman? How many men in all of history would beat a peak Foreman? C'mon.

Shavers? Pretty well shot by this point of his career was Norton.

Cooney? Please. He wouldve kicked this guy all over the ring seven or eight years earlier.
Difficult to argue with those assesments. Although the only thing I'd add is the Norton of 76-78 would have done for Cooney.

I am not saying that Ken Norton wasn't a good fighter or that Earnie Shavers, Gerry Cooney and Ron Lyle were better fighters. But the fact is that Norton simply could not match up well with hardest punchers in the heavyweight division even during his peak years. Besides not being able to take a hard punch well, Norton had fighting style which was far being ideal when facing heavyweights with powerful left-hooks. On the other hand, Norton had a fighting style which could give Muhammad Ali fits.

Yeah I know what you mean. Kinda like when Ali was punished on the cards for blatantly clutching on to Frazier like a jealous woman throughout their second bout. Oh wait..

I cant wait for Buzz to explain that inconsistency, using the tide, astrology, ethereal happenings, and various other irrelevant tripe.

Never does someone here say so little in saying so much.

Whats the latest, Buzz? Which round are you upto?

I dunno.
Maybe Buzz has the crazy notion that clinching is not the same thing as holding your head outside of ropes so that you don't get hit?
Maybe he has this wild idea that Ali-Frazier II was more one-sided than Ali-Young?
Maybe he noticed that clinching was a major part of of the game plans of Jack Johnson, Lennox Lewis ,John Ruiz etc. and the referees let them do it throughout their careers?

Interesting to note that what is now talked about the most in regard with Ali-Frazier II is that Ali held a lot. Not that Ali outboxed him or the bell that the referee thought he heard in the 2nd round and broke up the fighters when Frazier was hurt. I can imagine what the discussion would be about if the referee had heard an imaginary bell if it was Ali that was hurt not Frazier.

Now now....time to sober up and once again give thanks to the ref who allowed Joe his chance to rest up after being a bit wobbled early on. An act of sensible & affirmative action. No sense sending a perfectly good crowd home early.

Here are some facts.....

referee: Arthur Mercante 6-8 | judge: Harold Lederman 7-8 | judge: Barney Smith 7-8

Mercante.......pretty credible source. He apparently saw something even the judges missed. Something that we are missing as well?

......I.m just sayin'.........

It amazes me you continue to show your face in here while blatantly ducking my offer to see your card. Youd think you would either vanish (because we both know you CANT tell us which rounds Ali won), or put up your card.

I guess youve opted for the sensible middle ground of getting your ass handed to you.

For the second time...have you even seen this bout?
