Why is Pownceby "controversial?" That is one really overused word.

Does he put on barbecues and not invite journos or what?

Google him and then you will know.

I'd be intested to see what an old school bloke like you makes of his past. Brute.

As a father and grandfather I find that disturbing.

Unusual that a jury would convict of manslaughter in a case like that. Usually that happens when the offender pleads guilty.

Maybe they thought he didn't have the "intent" to warrant a conviction of murder.

After studying law I have read some amazing cases of the most brutal killers still only being convicted of Manslaughter, especially here in Qld.

As a father, I agree with Brute, this is very disturbing.

I assume this guy will not be able to fight outside of NZ?

I can't wait for this guy to fight someone decent, so we all can see him get what he deserves.

Will be an interesting fight, however the rise of Gunnar Jackson and Robert Berridge from the pro's in New Zealand has me more excited! Daniel whilst a nice guy seems to fight irregulary and therefore fails to gain much momentum with his career. Soul's past is exactly that, Im not sure exactly what direction they are trying to heads with his career to date but a McKinnon fight will certainly give us a better indication of where hes at. A Win for McKinnon will hopefully give his career the boost it urgently needs.

Then ideally one of the young guys mentioned early will get a shot at the winner!

Gunnar's immediate future (activity) will come to standstill, due to following PABA rule, as had for numerous OZ boys. http://www.pabaonline.com/regulations/g ... es.html#12
Over the years, the one's that had cashed-up promoters backing them persevered, others simply ditched the frigging thing. Some promoters got themselves in financial shit doing so....but that's another story.

Gunnar is scheduled to defend his NZ super middle title on June 29.....and he needs PABA's "Special Permit" (at a cost) to do so.....Even thought it's different weight category ??

OZ lightweight champ Brett Willian Smith is the most recent bloke that ditched PABA light welter title to defend his Oz title, avoiding PABA's "special permit" shit.

Sadly, what you've said is not Fact, However, this is nothing new.

Australian Lightweight Champion Brett W Smith, did not ditch the WBA-PABA Super Lightweight title, They wanted to defend the title on Brian Amatruda's show in Melbourne, against someone other than the Mandatory contender Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus,

Brett, was well aware of the fact, that he inherited the mandatory obligations, of the former Champion Rob Whaley, and had to have a Mandatory against Stevie O, who was the Interim Champion

Hence, the Stevie v Whaley re-match in March, won in convincing style by Stevie

I actually have the email, where he voluntary vacated the title of his own doing, because they did not want to fight Stevie O, but he actually wants to, and will challenge for the WBA-PABA Lightweight title, (His words not mine) when he is finished going as far as the Aussie title will take him.

I am happy to post the email up here as proof, if need be.

Craig, Like you, I genuinely see the improvement of Gunnar and Robbie Berridge as the future of boxing in Kiwi.

Berridge proved that with great KO wins over respected and good Aussie fighter's, and I knew Gunnar was a good fighter, back when i Refereed him in just his second pro fight, His fight on Friday proved he has what it takes, frightening thing is, He can and will improve even more?

As we have already spoken, I have plans for both fighter's, which will certainly give them an opportunity to improve their positions within the Oceania and Pan Pacific regions, they have the tools and are good enough to go even further, they just need a vehicle, and the WBA-PABA is that vehicle, forget all the negative drivel you hear from one particular bloke, you know what your doing, so just continue on, and the rewards will come, there are some great fights for both guys over here.

We operate through communicating with people involved in the sport directly Brad as you know, not people who are forever trying to pick it apart from the outside if you follow.

Both Jackson and Berridge are young talented fighters who have great futures in the region and hopefully beyond! As I have emailed you a brief outline of our plan, and of course Berridge is now fighting Caparello whoever wins it will be a great fight

Really looking forward to this one. I text the number given on boxrec sched. and the promoter rung me back for a chat about the show and how best we could meet to get a ticket. God bless New Zealand.
