Sky dump Hatton
Re: Sky dump Hatton
I guess Matchroom will put bids in for title fights involving fighters outside their stable and put on up and comers and ticket sellers on the undercard. They will also use it as a way to poach other fighters as they can guarantee tv.
It is a good way to be profitable if you have the tv but not the contractual obligation to keep fighters busy, they can just pick and choose.
I reckon the quality of the fights will be good too as they won't have the loyalty to give the fighters knockovers if they are using fighters from other stables.

That is what Prizefighter is all about!!!!MightyWarrior wrote:If Sky are talking about upping the level of their shows, they need to ditch the B level prizefighter bollocks - Hearn is conning the gullible Smith with his recycled journeymen and has beens dressed up as a big event.

DavidPayne wrote:So we can anticipate 26 bills per year.
20 for Hearn.
8 Prizefighters
2 Carl Froch
3 Kel Brook
2 Darren Barkers
5 remaining dates.
6 for Maloney
5 for Price
1 remaining -
So in effect Coldwell, Hatton and the less important attractions for Hearn and Maloney are now bidding for six dates or chief undercard slots on Froch, Brook, Barker and Price dates.
Don't forget Gavin Rees

Yes that's fair enough Ian, use it more sparingly, so we get better quality fighters taking part - but not the recycled crap that Eddie is churning out at a dime a dozen.dondada wrote:I do think it's an interesting and eye-catching format which has had some super scraps and good fighters in it.MightyWarrior wrote:If Sky are talking about upping the level of their shows, they need to ditch the B level prizefighter bollocks - Hearn is conning the gullible Smith with his recycled journeymen and has beens dressed up as a big event.
But it does need to be used more sparingly, IMO...less is more and all that.
Re: Sky dump Hatton
Aye, I wouldn't mind but it's self-defeating having too many anyway; Matchroom must be working harder and the end result is we can't keep up so each one becomes less of an event...two or three crackers a year would do me.MightyWarrior wrote:Yes that's fair enough Ian, use it more sparingly, so we get better quality fighters taking part - but not the recycled crap that Eddie is churning out at a dime a dozen.dondada wrote:I do think it's an interesting and eye-catching format which has had some super scraps and good fighters in it.MightyWarrior wrote:If Sky are talking about upping the level of their shows, they need to ditch the B level prizefighter bollocks - Hearn is conning the gullible Smith with his recycled journeymen and has beens dressed up as a big event.

Re: Sky dump Hatton
I think the stable of fighters will grow personally
Matchroom have good prospects too Scotty Cardle, John Ryder, Ryan Aston
then you have
Kell Brook, Carl Froch, Darren Barker, Gavin Ree's, Carl Frampton, Paul McCloskey - then Lynes, Purdy so think they have more than enough for the 20 fights with Prizefighter too..
Then Sky think working with Lou De Bella and think maybe HBO too
Its sad that they have removed Ricky though

Well I think Adam gets a lot more excited over these shows than most of the viewers. ( he pretty much has a live orgasm on air whoever Kell Brooks is fighting for instance )MachoMan09 wrote:I think that's a bit harsh on Adam Smith, mate. Re: Sky dump Hatton
Bunce, Hatton and everyone else needs to jump off the self-indulgent 'loyalty' wagon...
Maybe they were a pain to work with...
Maybe they promised SKY things and didn't deliver...
Maybe HP overrated their product and forced negotiations...
Maybe SKY didn't think they were getting value for money...
Maybe when SKY turned up at a show and they saw the operations in action, it was all a bit cheap and amateurish
Maybe
Maybe
Maybe
Loyalty???...People are making out that Hatton made SKY millions...Turn it on its head...SKY paid Hatton millions for roll over fights and he lost when he fought the big guns (Tsyzu aside)...Both won in that relationship...
Hatton's done alright out of SKY and they generously bankrolled his fledgling promotional company...Clearly something went wrong and I suspect it was on Hatton's side...So maybe, and I may be wrong, I think he should show a lot more class than referencing the Duff line...
EDIT: Whilst I'm on it...Didn't Warren use that line when Hatton dumped him? Life's a bitch huh!

Re: Sky dump Hatton
No nice news, looks like the two main sources of British boxing will just be showing one main promotion in the near future - Frank Maloney better watch his back.
I would imagine Hatton did one or two things which annoyed team Sky in the last year or so.... The youtube fights, their continued (albeit muted) involvement in the Khan vs McCloskey fiasco (amazing to think now that McCloskey is now being heavily backed by Sky!) and McCloskey's promoter didn't even get a wrap on the fingers for their involvement.
These cannot have gone down well with Sky though - plus the odd bill on Eurosport.... Yes, cannot blame Hatton promotions -he had no date with Sky had to keep his fighters active, but I am sure Sky would have prefered to have showcased these as snipbits on Ringside (as they are doing with AAA promotions).
I'm sure between primetime, premier, eurosport and C5 Hatton will still get some TV dates.
A frightening state of affairs though with Sky's committment to boxing. It seems all those promised Golden Boy fights are finishing and there is nothing left for them internationally beyond that.

Re: Sky dump Hatton
I'm not going to get drawn into a long arguement on the issue Jizzle but you're wrong on a number of levels.
I can't think of anyone at HP who would be described as a pain to work with.
As for not delivering on promises well every Promotor is guilty as charged to a lesser or greater degree.
Forced negotiations ? No one has done that with Sky as far back as I can remember. Sky have always dictated in negotiations. That's why the price they pay for the product has fallen, whilst at the same time the quality has risen.
Cheap and amateurish ?
Don't know what you're implying there mate but having been to far too many shows to ever remember, across all the Promotors, I don't think there's anything to support that allegation.
Again if you are serious in suggesting that Sky bankrolled HP you're so far off the mark it's untrue.
I would strongly suggest that HP have rarely made a profit on their shows to date.
Forget sport - this is a business.
Clearly from a business perspective the Sky heirarchy have decided that an almost monopoly situation is the way to go.
Remember Frank M would sell his business tomorrow if the price was right and has already stated he's done when his current contracts have run their course.
What concerns me is that we've been here before with "Oh Worthy One".
Will Eddie be any different ?
Hope so.
However if the quality of shows starts to drop with him - where do Sky go ?

Macho,
Hardly any mate.
We've got to face reality.
Boxing has become a minority sport. People don't enrol to Sky Sports JUST to watch boxing. Only a few muppets like us !

I hope so too but I won't be holding my breath...Hearn is already ripping the ass out of the Froch undercard. Once he has more dates and less competition the undercards will get even worse...That's why I don't like his silver spoon sales patter when he's giving it to the camera...twenty six wrote:Will Eddie be any different ?

I'm quite even-handed when it comes to doshing out the abuse...I have no favourite promoter because I think each, in their own right, has to accept some responsibility for the demise of the sport...End of message

So, after the Quigg v Munroe, am I right in stating that the state of British boxing is as follows;
Sky - Eddie Hearn (Matchroom) and Frank Maloney Promotions
Channel 5 - Hennessy Promotions
allegedly - allegedly Promotions
No TV Channel - Hatton Promotions

Re: Sky dump Hatton
Being pedantic you could also give allegedly quensbury promotions (Francis Warren).jamiedavies02 wrote:So, after the Quigg v Munroe, am I right in stating that the state of British boxing is as follows;

And Premier Sports - Hard Knocks (Spencer Fearon)... although very sporadic.

Hatton dumped but we still have the tired monstrosity that is Prizefighter. fornicate you Sky.

This is another kick in the teeth for real boxing fans, just the other day I was applauding Hatton for being one of the few promoters to put decent boxing on in the North West (only others are the occasional Maloney show tbh, most the Wood cards are prospect vs journeyman fare).
This to me just seems to reek of Sky not bothering with 'lesser' shows, pulling out of their support for small hall UK boxing gradually.

Silly move I'm not a huge fan of hatton promotions the way they treated kenny but they do have some good shows to cut them off is short sighted

I imagine that someone at SKY feels that a York Hall bill is the only small hall show worth showing.
