What happened to THE GARDEN
ive noticed that back in the day, the garden was the place to be, the center of the boxing universe..today..they have the golden gloves tourney there n thats about as good as it gets..when did the garden lose?..when did the garden become just another venue? they use to have all the title fights there n all the big matchups..now its a joke.. when officially did the garden lose its power?
You may have your question upside down, It's not the garden it's boxing.
Used to be that there were many premier fights, there just arent that many these days. If boxing was big and would draw, the garden would still be poppin. Once in while it still does.
To some degree big fights end up in great gambling establishmennts because it's one of the few places boxing is still popular and "good for business".
My guess is whats left of boxing will find it's way more and more into the casinos.

Good reply.... you could equally ask what happened to the big fight nights at the Yankee Stadium and similar open air venues. Would Corrales vs Castillo II fill a baseball park...? That sort of fight probably would have in the 1930s but with (a) a lower public interest in boxing and (b) readily available television coverage not today.BoxBuzz wrote:You may have your question upside down, It's not the garden it's boxing.

"the Garden"
....had a friend of mine who watched a boxing venue at Madison, Wisconsin. He thought he drove all the way to "Madison Arena".
No lie...funnier than shit.
p.s. excuse me, Madison Square Garden

Read again. I hate explaining stuff that's obvious.
My friend went to Madison, Wisconsin to watch a boxing venue. He got so drunk, he thought had gone all the way to Madison Sqaure Garden, New York City, New York.
Would you boys want some color crayons to go along with that menu?

More embarassed than anything because was bragging about going to THE MADISON SQUARE GARDEN when he got back. Luckily he didn't kill anyone on the road.

He had gone to Madison, Wisconsin thinking he was going to Madison Square Garden. Like I said, he was pretty drunk.
