JOE SELKIRK: 'It's time to get serious'

Joe Selkirk has been speaking to the Liverpool Fight Night about his desire to finally realise his potential and become a British champion before the end of 2012. The light middleweight has joined up again with Mick McAllister and Mark Quinn and has thanked Tony Bellew for helping him discover his passion for boxing again, just months after he threatened to walk away from the sport.

"I've not put in the work before, but now it's changed with Mick and Mark and Bellew for me is probably the most dedicated boxer in the sport, so if that rubs off on me it can only be a good thing."

"Bellew is one of my best friends and he's always been there for me, offering me advice and this has been a really tough camp alongside him. I want to be a world champion and this year hopefully I will get the fights I want."

Fantastic talent but needs to be kept active. As he said, one fight in 13 months; not good enough for someone in his position.

He's at the best place he could be, being back with McAllister and Quinn. They'll help Joe mentally and having Bomber in the gym can only be a good thing.

Fighters who feel the need to make public affirmations about it being "time to get serious" rarely climb too far up the tree of success.

I agree with you MachoMan, a fighter from day one should be dedicated and serious about the business to achieve success, Selkirk is a very good fighter with good power and bigger then his opponenents at present , but thought he was lucky to get the win against O'Meara and he will proberbly end up at Middle or supermiddle in the future, his career has stuttered along through injuries and inactivity, now it is time to make things happen and justify the high expectations of his fans.

Was wondering what had happened with Selkirk. Hardly had to break sweat last time out so would have thought he'd have been lined up for a quick return to the ring.
Hope to see more of him after return on the Olympia bill on 11th May.
O'Meara has looked great since the Selkirk loss.
