Fight weightclass designations

Post by SportsRatings »

Didn't know where else to ask this, pls move if necessary...

So - I see the fight weightclass designations now...have to click on the button to enable them.

A few curiosities:

http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

Serdar Uysel (has always fought at Heavyweight) lost to Spas Genov (who has always fought Cruiserweight). No weights are available for the fight. It is labelled a Cruiserweight fight. Is this just a guess between heavyweight and cruiserweight?

I looked at David Haye's record for reference. One fight in particular stood out:

2004-12-10 203½ Valeri Semiskur 217½

this was also labelled a Cruiserweight fight, despite the obvious Heavyweight weight of Semiskur. Can there be a Cruiserweight fight with one fighter obviously a heavy?

In other places, like Jameson Bostic:

2010-07-22 185¼ Vini Mahoni 209½

That one is labelled Heavyweight, due to Mahoni's weight. Is the weight designation done by some kind of formula (I assume) and if so, why are the Haye and Bostic fights not both heavyweight, or both Cruiserweight bouts?

Weight divisions limits are only strictly enforced for title fights, often non fights are made at several pounds over the division limit.
