Johnny Nelson
Johnny Nelson
Anyone else think his technique and speed looked poor when on the pads with Freddie Roach. I know his speed was comparable to Khan and Pacquiao on Ringside and he's been retired for years, but even so, looked very sluggish and arm punchy.
Maybe it's just me, oh well.

Re: Johnny Nelson
Ive got a funny feeling nelson knows how to throw a punch. He had me in stitches when he was doing the run with khan.
Re: Johnny Nelson
I loved it when that little Fillipino kid put up his dukes...
It was an interesting piece but I was a bit disturbed with Johnny's extremely tight white shirt that he wore when he went out with Khan after training.

Re: Johnny Nelson
I agree with the comment about technique (his right hand was particularly poor), but it isn't really fair to compare his speed to that of Pac or Khan !
There is something wrong somewhere - there is me the armchair expert eating my dorito's watching these guys on tv fighting for titles who can't even punch correctly !
Seriously, though I do often find myself critisizing boxers technique on Tv - watching Buckland a few weeks ago, some of his punching technique is terrible and I do not want to open up the whole 10 year Calzaghe debate !
I also agree with the comment about Nelsons choice of shirt. He obviously keeps himself fit and looks well, but some of his clobber is just wrong.

It must be a Sheffield fashion thing.
Dondada and TwentySix are both known to wear shirts like that, with denim shorts and a bum bag.
TRUE.

Not true - I don't have a bum bag.
Re: Johnny Nelson
Anyone whose boxed and had time off Champion or not will be rusty on the pads. I know what your saying about how he looked but try it yourself after a break.
Re: Johnny Nelson
hes in his 40's and sure hes been retired since 2006 didnt think he looked too bad on the pads you wouldnt want it smashing you in the face would you. hes choice of shirts with the shorts was a crime.

Re: Johnny Nelson
Think Dominic Ingle was in a Right Said Fred tribute band at one time; they were pretty convincing by all accounts.

Re: Johnny Nelson
I thought Roach had the pads a little low, making it awkward for the big man. Didn't pay too much attention, tbh.

Probably because he is use to working the pads with Amir Khan and the Pacman who are not as tall as Nelson is.JDC wrote:I thought Roach had the pads a little low, making it awkward for the big man. Didn't pay too much attention, tbh.

Re: Johnny Nelson
Nelson`s tight white shirt was not at all in keeping with the shorts he was wearing. A tight t-shirt perhaps, but not a spray on shirt.
He is obviously proud of his physique and lunchbox, but in that kind of Phillipines heat and humidity, that shirt would be both restrictive and inpractical.
Hopefully he will learn from this mistake and stick with the Adam Smith comfortable flannel check from now on.

Re: Johnny Nelson
Yeah it's well known that trainers hold their pads at a set height and don't deviate at all. It's the main reason Prince Naseem who was 5ft4 bombed so badly when he was trained by Emmanuel Steward who was used to training Lennox Lewis who was a foot taller. Naz couldn't even reach the damn pads.IRLangmaid25 wrote:Probably because he is use to working the pads with Amir Khan and the Pacman who are not as tall as Nelson is.JDC wrote:I thought Roach had the pads a little low, making it awkward for the big man. I've actually sparred with him, after a couple of rounds he did a rear naked choke on me and before i could tap out i passed out, woke up later on and he must hit pretty hard because i could hardly walk for a week.dondada wrote:That is a top quality bit of triviaG0mez wrote:You might think I'm pulling your pisser, But Gok Wan can look after himselfJDC wrote:![]()
