I saw Engels fight severaltimes at the Forum; when he started out he had tremendous hand speed and boxed as well as one would expect an Olympic silver medalist to box. But he started koing everyone and figured that since his fightsa only lasted 4 or 5 minutes how much training did he really need? Last time I heard of him he was 47-9, or 37-9; all wins by ko if memory serves and he'd been stopped many times. He fought Wilberforce Kiggundu in a Forum tournament and got robbed very blatantly.

Engels Pedroza just faded away, but he sure jumped on the scene back in the late 1980s with a bang and had many fans excited about his possibilities as a fighter and his future. He won something like 18, or 19 straight fights all by knockout all within the first three, or four rounds. He won a couple of minor regional titles, but never materialized into the world beater that many thought he would be. He was just one step below the top level, but it seems like everytime that he tried to take the next step, he always failed and never could get over the hump. One thing was certain though, he sure as hell could punch hard!

I saw him fight Othal Dixon at the Forum; what a fight! The fight either ended in the first or early in the second, but it was action all the way. They came out firing and in the middle of a tremendous exchange Pedroza got nailed and went to a knee but the referee was screened and didn't see that and Pedroza never stopped punching as he wobbled, went to a knee, regaine his feet and shortly thereafter flattened Dixon.

If memory serves me right, Othal Dixon was also a pretty hard puncher as well!
