Malignaggi spoiler

Post by Old bones Ian »

Wow he goes into Senchenko's backyard and scores a 9th round stoppage. This has got to be good news for Kell Brook who could get a shot at the new champ.
I didn't see this one going to Malignaggi and neither did many others, he's only scored 7 ko's in his whole career, so full marks to him for winning a championship in a higher division.

It's not like he knocked him out though, he just closed his eye and it was stopped.

good result for him though, malignaggi has had his share of nice wins as well as tough losses.

Say what you like about Paulie, but he's got serious guts and can't help but be happy for him pulling this off against the odds.
Ian, you're completely right about Brook though - he'll never get a better route to a title...

2 Weight World champion, surely he'd do some damage with the big guns if he had power. Was siperb yesterday and according to his twitter he tweeted in between rounds.

That's a very surprising result.

I've got a lot of time for Malignaggi - genuinely tough bastard. Tiny little guy too.

It was a good performance and a legit stoppage as well. I'm sure the condition of Senchenkos eye played a part in Smoger stepping in but Paulie was putting a beating on Senchenko in the 9th, if the eye was in perfect condition you couldn't really complain with the fight being stopped there.

Plenty of WWs who would beat Paulie though, everyone knew just how weak a champ Senchenko was. Probably on M.Hatton level considering their respective performances against Nuzhnenko. Hopefully Brook can get the winner of the likely Alexander-Malignaggi fight....actually quite fancy Paulie in that one but I'd back Brook to take care of both.
