J.Tapia vs D. Romero

Post by wlvrne »

Hey Gents, I had to dig deep into my archives for an entertaining fight lately. I came up with what I believe was Johnny Tapia's defining moment in defeating Danny Romero for the IBF JR. BTM wt belt.
I just watched it.......helluva a fight. You might hate him, or love him, Johnny Tapia was a helluva fighter.

Fought brilliantly that night, didn't he? Another fvorite of mine is when he won the WBO belt by stopping Henry (?) Martinez in 11. As to Romero, he'd done so well in the Tejedor fight to win the title, adapting his style and boxing to win, that it was disappointing to see him spend the rest of his career loading up for one shot.

That was a bad blood battle too. They both were predicting victory and what happened was that Tapia delivered the goods and Danny sort of choked the way I saw it. He just had no answer for Tapia's speed and skill. I think you can see a turnaround in Danny's career after that fight.

He was looking like the games hardest pound for pound puncher and after that fight he never seemed to show that dominating intensity again. It was a very defining fight for both of them.
