Muttley turns down Numbembe Fight.

After reading talented Young Muttley article in Boxing News i was suprised to hear now that he has turned down the chance to fight Gossops Ali Numbembe on undercard of Moore v Walker Sept 23rd.
Surely this was a fight for him to of taken and a opportunity to put himself right up there at British and commonwealth level.
Shame not going to happen though would of been a good fight and full marks to Matchroom for trying to put good fights on.

I am also surprised Contender, Muttley is often featured in the local Sporting Star paper by Richard Lakin. I would have expected him to step up to the plate and fight Nuumbembe. Weird.

Hmm, woulda thought this would've been a great opportunity for Muttley to get a TV showcase. Has he put on a bit of weight over the summer or something?

Guys take it from me,they would of offered Mutley sily money for this,Errol Johnson has been waiting for a big fight for Mutley for ages....they offered Nigel Wright but again piss poor money....

It was suppose to be a Commonwealth eliminator what more of a reason do they need?????

I am connected with Ali and can tell you all that I am completley f$&king embarressed with all the so called boxers who have refused to fight him. Many well known names too.

For fornicate sake this is not a game of tiddlywinks its boxing and boxers fight. If you don't want to fight then f%ck off and get another job and stop wasting everyone's time.

I am not saying Ali will beat everyone but atleast he will fight anyone.

I am seriously thinking of doing a name and shame page for all the shitbags who have refused to fight Ali.

Ali is looking for an opponent for the 23rd September, any welterweights out there fancy it????

Mutley, who's a natural light welter, is asked to step up to fight the bigger, awkward, dangerous Numbembe, in Numbembe's back yard (alright, not quite, but it's closer than Bromwich, and with Ali apparently fighting on Matchroom bills now, he'd seem to be the 'home' fighter) and he gets offered - apparently - short money? I wouldn't call that ducking.

How much notice was Mutley given for the fight?

Ali started out as a light welter but since the Barnes fight has moved up to Welter.

Mutley has boxed at a heavier weight than Ali, so I don't think the weight issue is a problem.

Yes the show is a Matchroom show and yes it is in Manchester, but fighters (especially ones without Titles have to go where the work is) neither Ali or Mutley are in a position to dictate.

All boxers should be greatful of any TV coverage and should be jumping at the chance. (I know Ali is)

Ali is the one working hard at marketing himself and selling tickets to fund the fight.

boxers who think professional boxing is just about fighting might aswell forget it. There is a lot more to it than that.

This would be a 50 / 50 fight as Mutley is one of the best in this country and he can certainly bang. So he has a very good chance of winning.

As far as notice goes Ali's had 4 1/2 weeks and Mutley had 4 weeks, not much difference there. However it was Mutleys Manager who initially phoned and put the challenge in.

I know Ali would take this for free as he is only interested in winning Titles, no matter what he has to do to get the chance.

If Ali becomes a Champion one day, one thing for sure is that he will be a genuine Champion.

He will have done it the hard way. (No ducking, no moaning, plenty of hard work and a Belt that has not been bought for him)

Hope this clears a few things up.

I have a lot of respect for Mutley and have enjoyed watching him fight, but boxers need to grab oppertunities when they pop up if they want to get anywhere. (My personal opinion of course)
